Frankly, a movie that spends most of its time showing the protagonist walking and nature isn't interesting at all, and they're just walking without any tricks. In the picture, the two Gerrys are walking. The background is an endless wilderness or endless mountains. Time seems to stand still in a space with no end in sight. Only two people are walking mechanically, and they can only hear their feet and the ground. A methodical screeching sound. The large long-range lens reflects the disparity between man and nature quite thoroughly, especially the part of the road that is nearing the end, giving people a feeling of "walking for a long time but still in the same place", coupled with the low and eerie soundtrack and some similar Yu Zhanfeng's voice amplifies this feeling infinitely. If the sky is not getting brighter to remind the audience that the time is also "going", there is no guarantee that someone will press fast forward here to end the pain.
If you're used to fast-paced movies, "Gerry" will definitely put you on pins and needles. It's horribly slow and doesn't mean to please any audience at all. Neither does the movie have any clues as to who the two Gerrys (or even one Gerry) are, where they came from, and where they end up going. The minimalist settings also give people a lot of room for interpretation. Thinking back carefully, the journey of "Gerry" from the beginning to the end is very similar to the process of our dream-chasing. The jokes on the side indicate that the current journey is carrying the excitement of exploring the unknown; in the face of an unchangeable environment, there is a lot of despair, and walking at this time has become a way to escape loss; until the last numb machine, when all expectations Become helpless, walking has become an instinct. This process is exactly the same as the changes in my mind while watching "Gerry".
At the end of the film, a Gerry who always wanted to leave strangled another Gerry who wanted to leave. The former only wanted to get rid of the cage in front of him, but the latter left this world.
It is said that at the Sundance Film Festival a lot of audiences left halfway, and when the strangled Gerry shouted "I'm leaving", I also breathed a sigh of relief, after all, the next movie Must be fun!
