People pay attention to the mystery, but the truth is simple and straightforward

Most of the ordinary small country films have relatively simple plots, relying on historical background and cultural connotations, as well as touching emotions. The Palestinian film "Omar", which was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards, tells a rather complicated story.

The story takes place in the Middle East, on the Israeli-Palestinian border in the Gaza Strip, one of the most sensitive areas in the world right now. Religious, cultural, racial, and historical conflicts are intertwined in this small area. People's every move seems to be imposed on a political background, and any trivial matter may become an international hot spot. However, although this film made in Palestine, although it is a realistic subject and faces the hottest and most sensitive topic at the moment, it carefully bypasses politics and religion, and just focuses on this intricate story, so as to draw a simple of universal truth.

The first scene at the beginning of the film is the high wall between Palestine and Israel. This is a wooden wall, but it is also a political wall, a religious wall and a cultural wall, which also divides the lives of ordinary people. The protagonist of the film, Omar, relies on a rope every day to climb over this high wall and travel between Palestine and Israel. Omar is a young worker in a bakery in Israel and a peripheral member of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, a Palestinian militant group.

The reason why he climbed the high wall is not only political, but also more emotional.

The whole film is composed of multiple triangular relationships, and the interaction of several triangular relationships makes the contradictions continue to intensify, making the story more complicated, and also complicating the background of the film. Omar has two subordinates in the Palestinian-occupied area, one of them is Tarek, the leader of the Arab brigade, and the three of them are planning to shoot Israeli border soldiers to vent their dissatisfaction with Israel's occupation of their land. The three constitute the first triangular relationship of the film. In this triangular relationship, in fact, the most unpredictable is the protagonist Omar. He was completely kept in the dark and became a pawn in the hands of many people. What attracts Omar to climb the wall every day is his feelings for Tarek's sister Nadia. The emotional entanglement between Omar and Nadia is the key factor in the story, which directly leads to the complex evolution of the following events. Another one of Omar, Amjad, is also very fond of Nadia. This is the second triangle of the film.

Of course, the main line in the film is the relationship between the Omar trio and the A-Brigade and the Israeli police. These three constitute the largest triangular relationship in the film. This big triangle actually includes the first two small triangles. When the Omar trio shot and killed the Israeli soldier, the three triangles began to turn like gears intertwined. Their rotation needs blood to lubricate, and the final outcome must be bloody.

What is thought-provoking is that the various characters in the film do not have obvious belief orientations and ethnic orientations. On the contrary, their respective interests become the main driving force for their actions. Perhaps this is the real reality of the complicated and noisy Middle East? Or the real reality of hotspots across the world. The clash of civilizations cited by Mr. Huntington is ultimately a clash of real interests. The so-called disputes of culture, religion and race are actually at the core of disputes of interests. Just put on the above-mentioned sacred cloak, can stand on a higher point of morality, and can call and attract more enthusiastic young people to participate in it. Specifically in the movie, Omar's religious characteristics are not obvious. His participation in anti-Israel activities is more because he loves Nadia, the sister of Tarek's brother, and at the same time, he was humiliated by the Israeli army; The policemen from Israel were also blurred, speaking fluent Arabic, which made Omar misunderstand that he was a compatriot, and he always showed that arresting Arabs was just a job.

From the appearance, Amjad in the movie is a standard little guy, and he is the weakest among the Omar trio. He was shoved by two brothers and shot and killed the Sentinel, always appearing to be a vain, airbag. But Paramecia also has its own love, and Amjad also fell in love with Nadia, which became the most crucial part of the whole story. The interaction of the small triangle of Omar, Amjad and Nadia affects the constant wrestling of the other two triangles, and finally leads to the loss of the entire balance. Actually, seriously, Amjad is the most important character in the story. Seemingly weak characters, but at the most critical moment, give the most deadly knife. The appearance of the weak makes others ignore his existence.

While chatting with two brothers, Amjad seemingly casually told a story about how African hunters caught the monkeys. The hunters feed the monkeys with candy, and when the monkeys get used to the candy, they put a lot of candy in the hole. The monkey was reluctant to give up the candy, and the hole was too small to get out, so the hunter just grabbed it. What is the moral of the story, I believe that everyone in the movie, including the audience, has their own understanding. Who is the hunter and who is the monkey is different in different situations. However, the greedy nature is exactly why the monkey was caught. Finally, Omar told the story to the Israeli policeman. Who is the hunter and who is the monkey is not an obvious question. It seems that the strongest is not the final victor, and even if it is the victor, who knows which hunter's trap will fall in the end?

"Omar" is clearly a story told to the world, trying to avoid a lot of politics and religion in search of something in common. However, although the story itself is universal, the background of the story has strong regional characteristics. This is the Middle East, and this is the relationship between Palestine and Israel. Although the story can take place anywhere in the world, in this situation, only in the context of the film is the most reasonable and fascinating. Only the cultural and religious background between Palestine and Israel gives this story the richest flesh and blood. The reason why this story is profound is precisely in its realistic depiction of reality.

This film actually tells people from another aspect that the previous conflict between Palestine and Israel was not as complicated as we imagined. The so-called politics, culture and religion are actually an additional shell. People have solidified the form of the region, and everything that happens here has been linked to its complex relationship, while ignoring that it may be just a simple matter involving human nature and interests, which is similar to the one in the movie. Like the story, it will happen anywhere, it will happen in other places, it is just a dispute of personal interests and emotions, and if it happened in the Middle East and happened in Palestine and Israel, it will be painted with religious colors, and it will be attributed to cultural conflicts. It will lead to political traction, and it will touch the sensitive nerves of people from all walks of life.

The relationship between Palestine and Israel carries too many things, which make the interests of both sides extremely complicated. How to put aside these complicated backgrounds that have little to do with ordinary people and desensitize religion and culture is the correct way to solve the Middle East problem. Looking for the cause in the direction of the conflict between culture and religion will only complicate the problem. The only way is to go back to the original point and return to the interests of everyone. In this respect, I do not agree with Mr. Huntington's judgment. Interests, only the interests of individuals, and the desires of individuals themselves, are the contradictions in the world. The so-called concepts of religion, race, culture, and country are actually only forced in to endorse personal interests.

However, people always like complicated things, but they do not like simple and straightforward truth. This is where the complexity of the world lies.
