Genius movie

This is a great movie, there is no extra plot, no dialogue, every scene is worthy of the audience to savor.
At the beginning of the film, General Brular asked General Miró to be responsible for attacking Anthill, and General Miró felt that this was an impossible task, so Brular offered a promotion in exchange for promotion. In the end, the greed of human nature is hard to be the enemy of justice. Although there is still a word in his mouth, and he loves soldiers like a child, Milo took on this task.
The next paragraph was a dialogue between General Milo and the three soldiers when he went to the field to inspect the field. His question and answer were exactly the same, showing a full face of a politician, which made people feel sick. At the beginning of the film, he was deceived by his lies. And the little favors left behind are also gone. It can be simple and rude to treat ordinary soldiers, but to persuade the Corps Ducks to use some strategy, use the aggressive method to make the obvious resistance Dax submit to it. General Milo is not useless, knowing that it varies from person to person, otherwise he would not be able to climb to such a high position, no one in this world is a fool.
Before launching the attack, there was an episode. Captain Roger and his two soldiers went to the enemy camp to scout. Roger, who was greedy for life and fear of death, killed a soldier and escaped. Another soldier who was on the mission together, a sergeant who was studying with Roger and then joined the army, was filled with righteous indignation and claimed to report on Roger, but Roger tried to conceal the truth. After hesitating, the sergeant missed the best time to report and laid the blame for the future.
The day of the offensive was not smooth. Dax's regiment was unable to advance because of the fierce enemy artillery fire. General Miró was very angry with them, and even asked the rear artillery to bomb the Dax regiment on the battlefield for punishment. The artillery captain did not execute this absurd order, and the mission to attack Ant Mountain failed.
After the mission failed, of course, the person in charge should be found. After weighing them, Brouard and Milo decided to select one person from each team of the Dax Corps to kill the chicken and the monkey. It seems that all the handling of failures is consistent, not only looking for a scapegoat, but also not being too big for fear of affecting morale. The three teams look for scapegoats in different ways. The first team leader finds the sergeant who had previously performed the task together, which can accomplish the task and avoid future troubles, which can be described as killing two birds with one stone. The second team found an out-of-group person, and the third team decided by drawing lots.
Dax was very angry after learning about the situation, and he personally served as the defender of the three soldiers, hoping to persuade the judge in the military court, which further explained his idealism. Finally, in a trial with no defense, no record, and no evidence, Dax was defeated and three soldiers were convicted. After the trial, the artillery captain approached Dax and was willing to provide testimony to prove that Miró ordered the shelling of his own people. So Dax went to General Brular with the last glimmer of fantasy, to no avail. In Brollard’s view, Dax is simply naive, because he needs a scapegoat or a reason to explain the failure of this operation, and the media and the public also need some material to render this protracted war. All of this is Dax can't control, what he can do, he can only use his little power to punish Roger for public revenge, let him serve as the firing squad leader to accept conscience's condemnation.
The execution of the death penalty was like a show, with priests praying, reporters taking pictures, and soldiers in neat rows to boost the military's might. It is of course not necessary to spend such a big Zhou Zhang just for the execution of the three soldiers. The main purpose is to create a far-reaching impact, so that the execution ground has been turned into a show. General Brullard fully demonstrated his cunning and cunning. After executing the soldiers, he used the evidence provided by Dax to squeeze out Miró. When he tried to win Dax further, it didn't work. This may be the only bright spot in the whole movie, otherwise it would be too dark.
At the end of the film, Dax eavesdropped at the entrance of the bar, listening to the conversations between the soldiers and the boss on the stage and the showgirl, from the beginning of the full whistle and one after another, until the voice of the captured German showgirl. After getting up, the audience sang along, indicating that the evil of human nature can still be awakened by beautiful things such as singing. But unfortunately, as the messenger gave Dax's order to return to the battlefield, the singing stopped abruptly, indicating that the beautiful humanity that had just been inspired would once again face the ugly baptism.
There are good and evil in human nature, which are difficult to control. When encountering beautiful things, they may become better. Once encountering war, then the ugliest aspect of human nature will be fully aroused. The director does not simply call anti-war slogans or sensationalism, but portrays human nature scene by scene. And Kubrick, who was less than 30 years old when he was making the movie, was able to portray the ugliness of human nature so deeply, it was a genius. In the era of peace, do we also need to examine our various governments, companies, etc., to ensure that they can promote good and suppress evil?

The German woman who was "captured" at the end and chanted in a low voice to arouse all the tears and homesickness of the soldiers is Kubrick's wife~

CC Collection Part 538, produced in the United States in 1957. A group of soldiers who came for no reason, a general who commanded indiscriminately, a failed battle, and the shooting of three small soldiers was regarded as a political explanation. After Michael Douglas's father Kirk Douglas established his own company, he found new director Kubrick's first cooperation, and the German daughter-in-law Christiane Kubrick sang a song at the end of the film. The well-known French writer Humphrey Kirby's novel of the same name was filmed vividly and was banned in France as soon as it was released. I don't know who fooled who in the US-French relationship in that era. 4

Paths of Glory quotes

  • Colonel Dax: How many casualties do you expect, sir?

General Mireau: Say 5 five percent killed by our own barrage. Ten percent more getting through No Man's Land and 20 percent more getting through the wire. Say another 25 percent in actually taking the Anthill and we're still left with a force more than adequate to hold it...

  • Colonel Dax: Let me get this straight, sir. You're offering me General Mireau's command?

General Broulard: Come, come, Colonel Dax. Don't overdo the surprise. You've been after the job from the start. We all know that, my boy.

Colonel Dax: I may be many things, sir, but I am not your boy.

General Broulard: Well, I certainly didn't mean to imply any biological relationship.
