Instinct: the urge to kill

The movie lists four demons who can't restrain the urge to kill in a parallel sentence.

The first one is the heroine, who is suspected of killing Beth’s ex-husband and rock singer, and stopped Nick’s murder. Reaching out for the ice cone and putting it down again was an impulse that she couldn't restrain.

The second one is Nick. He is a hand-skating madman. He couldn't restrain his urge to shoot when he picked up the gun. He killed four people in five years, two of them were completely innocent tourists, and he lied shamelessly. He also passed the polygraph test with a psychological quality different from ordinary people. He is a traitor and coward who has slippery hands and dare not take responsibility. In the end, Beth died in his hands, completely in line with the style of his hand-skating party, using force rashly and disregarding the lives of others. If the female protagonist is a demon who deliberately kills, the male protagonist is a habitual offender of manslaughter, and he is not worthy of being a policeman.

The third one is Roxy. At the age of 16, she took her father's razor and cut the throats of her two younger brothers. She said she didn't know why, but she just had a razor on her hand, so she wanted to do that. This viciousness is really natural. As for what Gass said she was out of jealousy, it can only be used as a reference. Jealousy can only be regarded as the cause of the murder impulse. The reason is that the movie does not explain it and can only be regarded as a mystery. But the urge to kill is true.

The fourth is the old blonde lady Esso. This is also a demon who kills without blinking. There is no reason that can be understood by normal people to kill her husband and children. The old lady is getting older and often goes into and out of the heroine's house. She looks like the heroine's assistant, spiritual mentor, and year-end acquaintance. In terms of values, she probably shares sympathy with the heroine.

Why not kill the hero? Because the heroine is afraid that things will be revealed? I don’t think so. The heroine is an extremely empty nihilist. She likes walking tightrope and playing with fire. The more dangerous she gets, the more interesting she is. She dared to kill the last gunner, so why didn’t she dare to kill this?

I think that the female lead is observing and studying the male lead. Although the male protagonist is a manslaughter maniac, it is not intentional after all. Even if it is intentional, it is not directly intentional like the female protagonist, roxy, and Esso, so the male protagonist is a potential stock that needs to be developed. The female protagonist has many behaviors to induce the male protagonist to break the precepts, enticing the male protagonist to recognize themselves and submit to their desires ("What is the feeling of murder"). The male protagonist is the research object of the female protagonist. How does he develop? The hostess cares, so the hostess is still observing. When the male protagonist is completely blackened, the female protagonist may be able to form a long-term relationship with him, just like roxy and Esso.

It can be said that these people are perverted in talking and laughing, they are not good at each other, things are gathered in groups, and people are divided into groups. They all have an uncontrollable impulse to kill. This impulse is their instinct. I feel that this is what the movie "instinct" refers to. Sexuality is just a superficial thing.
