The Romantics (2010)
This movie has been downloaded for three or four years and has been sitting in the corner of the hard drive. It's been so long, I've forgotten about it, and I didn't remember such a movie until it was time to clear my hard drive. Can't remember why I downloaded it, presumably to see Dianna Agron. In addition, I also watched this film twice, the first time I watched it for 30 minutes and didn't watch it, so it can be seen that the plot of this film is not particularly attractive.
The film tells the stories of the groom, his ex-girlfriend, and their friends before a wedding. The heroine attends another friend's wedding with other friends from college who call themselves "romanticists". The heroine and the groom used to be boyfriend and girlfriend, and they have always been in love with each other, but they have also broken up many times. The bride-to-be is the heroine's roommate, and she took the initiative to find the heroine and let her be the bridesmaid. The heroine was reluctant, but she came anyway with a smile on her face. After the daytime wedding rehearsal, everyone took a walk by the sea and the bride was alone in her room. At this time, the bridegroom jumped into the sea and sneaked away, and when everyone saw that he was missing, they split up to look for him. The heroine finds the groom, and the two soon quarrel because the bride refuses to reconcile with the groom. The groom had to find the bride, and the bride calmly told the groom to stick to today. The other four looking for the groom are two couples. After the two couples exchanged objects, they cheated when they were alone. Meanwhile, the bride's sister ruins the wedding dress. After the quarrel, the heroine returned to the house and saw the poem reciting with the groom on the mobile phone, so she came to the groom excitedly, and then the two had sex on the grass. The next day, before the wedding, the heroine told the bride what happened last night, and the two quarreled, but the bride did not mind that the wedding was still held. However, a heavy rain stopped the wedding, and the heroine and the groom stood in the rain and smiled.
It's a romantic comedy that isn't too funny, and a movie that doesn't have a theme and doesn't make sense. The purpose of the film is only one, to express an emotion through a compiled story, an indescribable "petty bourgeoisie" or "literary" emotion. Therefore, it is meaningless to explore the plot of this film in depth. The director is to have that "small and fresh" literary and artistic style.
In other words, what is the story about? The main part is a love triangle composed of a cowardly man, an unconfident woman, and a real woman, and this love triangle has no end! Also, the fucks of three friends are pointless, they have no value. So what is there to say about such a film? This film is just a novel written and directed by himself at home, fooling the audience and readers, and making a little money by the way.
The highlight of this film is the shooting, that is, the creation of a "small fresh" atmosphere. Music, pictures, colors, framing, all of these express this mood one by one. Such as wide beaches, elegant residences, sometimes lyrical and sometimes dynamic music, dim night scenes, bright day scenes, and so on. All you need to watch this movie with is your eyes and ears, no brains at all. Writing this makes me think that there are many more movies like this in Hollywood. Therefore, to watch a movie, you must first find a suitable entry point. If the entry point is selected well, even a mediocre movie audience can feel what they need.
Finally, I want to say two things. First, Dianna Agron's role is meaningless at all, so why create such a character? Her existence is not as good as those of the heroine's friends. Second, I cannot comment on the poems that appear in the film. The R3 subtitle translation is too abstract, I can't understand it!
The actors in this film are not big names, and their performances are quite satisfactory. However, there are many beauties in the film, which are worthy of careful appreciation, especially since these women are still very young. For them, do not go into detail. As for the male actors, they are even less famous than the actresses, except for the short Elijah Wood. I have nothing more to say about them. In short, the casting of this movie is still outstanding, but the performance is very general, just regular performances.
in conclusion. This is a niche movie with no meaning in the plot, but a fresh style. When you are tired of watching commercial films and art films, this film can adjust your mood appropriately.
