The author is dead, take The Shining as an example

I want to talk about my movie memory again - "The Shining" is the only set that I have watched the Pearl 930, and halfway through it, I was so shocked that I couldn't stand it and wanted to turn around and watch the movie. The blood and the supernatural prostitutes gushing out of the elevator doors, I was so shocked that I had to give up before I could digest the cliché. In a few years, I will watch the Pearl 930 together with my grandmother. The grim and weird expression of Jack Nicholas, as well as the black and white photos in the last scene, still make people shudder. To this day, I believe that I was too shocked to forget many details of "The Shining". I only remember the horror scenes and the general plot.

As for "The Shining 237", it is actually a set of documentaries that analyze "The Shining". Five Kubrick super fans are dictating and editing scenes from "The Shining", and they carefully analyze the deep meaning of the pictures, props and settings one by one. I think a lot of it was over-interpreted and got a laugh, like the blue sky and white clouds in the opening scene showing Kubrick's appearance, but there are some subtle discoveries that left me stunned.

One of the interviewees mentioned the concept of "psychological cues", that is, repeated strange/irrational designs to create psychological cues and create anxiety. I think this makes sense, after all, I have experienced the kind of audience that is so restless that it stops. There are a few points that I think are worth mentioning:

. Jack talks to Wendy, the picture is Jack, there is a chair in the corner behind him, then the picture is Wendy talking, and then the picture is Jack, but the chair behind him disappears;

. There is a large window at the back of the general manager's room, but according to the hotel design in the play, it is impossible. Behind the general manager's room, there should be a corridor next to the elevator;

. Danny stepped on the bicycle three times in a circle, and when he did not step on the stairs in the first mirror, the second time he stepped on the bicycle, he stepped on the bicycle from the ground to the second floor, and the third time he stepped on to see the maid;

. Danny is playing with wagons on the carpet, and when Danny stands up, in a cut, the pattern of the carpet flips upside down.

Of course, the interviewees put forward more interpretations from these many clues, such as the "Indian Holocaust Theory", referring to the theme of "The Shining" to criticize the American persecution of Indians; ", criticizing Hitler's actions in World War II; "The Moon Landing Fake Theory", referring to Kubrick's filming of the Apollo 11 moon landing clip for NASA, which is often questioned as a fake, so in "The Shining" (the title of "Room237" echoes this, room 237 is the collection of this secret, etc.)... I personally think these arguments are too far-fetched, but whether it is credible or not, just watch the movie screen , enough to shape the unease. For someone like Kubrick who is careful and has an IQ of 200, would the above be "unintended" bugs? Or is it a deliberate setting? I believe it is the latter.

Another interviewee mentioned that there will be many interesting images when the images are superimposed in forward and reverse. For example, the black and white photo at the end and the lake and mountains at the beginning of the film are superimposed, and it looks like a postcard with the words "Overlook Hotel, July 4th Ball, 1921"! It's obviously an over-interpretation, but it's very creative! It also confirms that "the author is dead".

"The Shining 237" cuts over Kubrick's other works and some classic black-and-white horror films to express the immediate reactions of viewers and interviewees watching "The Shining." Coupled with the repeated appearances of prostitutes, blood waves in elevators, and beautiful women turning into corpses, I saw the last third of "The Shining 237", and my heart was already cold enough. No one in the four wilds was cold and frozen, and was really startled.
