I heard that this is the first time for Aki to shoot a warm sketch, and I was still looking forward to it. The film begins with an unremarkable shoe shiner who earns a dozen euros a day to support his family, and a local inspector who always wears a trench coat. The shoe shiner used to be a writer, but after middle age, he became so desolate that he made a living by shining shoes, and his living place also changed from Paris to the place where the film takes place, Le Havre, a place that looks very retro. Fortunately, he has a virtuous and loving wife, a group of warm-hearted neighbors, and a dog. In my spare time, I go to a pub near my home to have a drink and talk about the mountains, and my life is so dull. The turning point occurs when a young boy who is trying to smuggle to London and is intercepted in Le Havre, slips away from the police and accidentally has an intersection with a shoe shiner. The shoe shiner moved with pity, let him live at home, took care of him, protected him, and dealt with the Inspector's trouble from time to time. The neighbors are also eager to help, and everyone wants to do something for the child. At the same time, the shoemaker's wife is unfortunately seriously ill in the hospital, and the shoemaker not only visits his wife every day, but also travels about the boy's affairs. In the end, with everyone's efforts, they managed to collect enough money for the smuggling from Le Havre to London, and made concerted efforts to escape the police search and put the boy on the ship. The inspector also found out with conscience and did his best. The shoe shiner's wife was finally healed, and everyone was happy.
It seems that I haven't watched such a warm and happy ending movie for a long time, especially when both story lines ended in comedy, and I felt happy after watching it. An ordinary person like a shoe shiner, he did his best to help a little boy he didn't know, even for his own safety, and raised a huge sum of money for him. What a lovely person he is, not only him, but the neighbors also shine with the brilliance of humanity, the bakery owner, the grocer, and the bar owner, all dedicated themselves to the little boy. Maybe there won't be such a story in reality, but Aki tells the movie like a fable, allowing us to see good people have good rewards, and the brilliance contained in ordinary life.
Many details of the film are handled very well. The male protagonist is undoubtedly a person who is very proud of his former glory, a little smart, and a very kind person. When I saw him put on a formal suit that he hadn't worn in a long time to go about the little boy's business, he was inexplicably moved. Especially when he pretended to be a lawyer when he went to visit the prison, his playfulness made people smile. When answering why others should trust him, he said confidently, just rely on my blue eyes! Hearty makes his image involuntarily taller. That little boy looks like a smuggled child who has never seen the world. His eyes are deep, his words are mature, his actions are sophisticated, and he is cute. No wonder the inspector will let him go in the end. And that little bob, who was so old and played rock hard on stage, raised 3,000 euros, which can only be described as romance.
In fact, the tone of the whole movie is romantic, everything is very warm. Although the day of the little man is a bit bitter, it is full of sunshine. Perhaps what Aki wants to tell us is that ordinary people can also interpret greatness.
Living at the bottom, you can also look up at the stars.
Look, the cherry blossoms are blooming. how nice.
