Affection is not a tragedy, love is colder than death

I have read the original Wuthering Heights many times. This book has been my favorite since high school. This time, it is not one of the most popular. I have tried to read the original English version of it. Because many of the English expression habits are different from today's, When I read it, I didn't understand the meaning of Bronte very well. Once there was a break in time, this original English book was the driving force for me to learn English.

Let’s talk about the original book first. The love of Wuthering Heights is absolute. It has been affecting my view of love since I was young. It is not easy to advocate this absolute view of love, because it will be very tiring if you can’t let go easily. Maybe that's why Kathy thinks she can't live in the world anymore, love sometimes makes you want to die, many people have it, even though you tell yourself that the world isn't everything he's not him and there's so much more It's still very big, but the despair that arises from losing him, and the attacks on your heart from time to time, this huge exhaustion and torture makes it impossible to continue. So from the moment Casey said: marrying him, would lower my identity, and the moment Hickley rushed into the rain, he was alive but dead. Because of his departure, Casey is alive and dead. They continued, but in their hearts there was no trace of despair. Every time I read this, I can't help myself. If you say that life is sunshine and beauty, then love must be tormenting you. It is not bright at all. Bright is not love. Killing love, you can remember Yes, always those painful memories.

"I am Healthcliff!" Kathy said, her love for Edgar is the leaves on the tree, the leaves will fall with the wind, but her love for Hickley is like a rock in the ground, although ugly, but Always need.

In the movie, after Hickley married Isabella, Isabella hugged him, prayed for this love, made him believe her, and said she wanted to give him happiness. But Hickley says there's nothing in your eyes, like Linton's. Yes, mad and stweet's Kathy is so cute by comparison, she's crazy, she's real, she loves Hickley, she loves Lynton, she wants the pain, but she wants the morning meeting, she doesn't want to live in In the dark, she also knew that was where she belonged. She is the most confused sober, and she deserves this love.

In love there is no fairness and injustice, Edgar and Isabella no fairness and injustice, Hickley and Casey no fairness and injustice. Brontë knows love too well to know how she, a writer who had never experienced love, wrote this story.

Always remember, Hickley stood in front of Casey's grave and asked them to pry open Casey's coffin, he said that after he died, they could still be together.

Affection is not a tragedy, love is colder than death.

The brilliance of the original and the wonderful performance of the male lead are the highlights. The script, cinematography, and soundtrack are all textbook style of the era, undisturbed but lacking in surprises.

Wuthering Heights quotes

  • Cathy: Are you enjoying yourself, Heathcliff?

Heathcliff: I've had the pleasure of watching you.

Cathy: You're very grand, Heathcliff. So handsome. Looking at you tonight I could not help but remember how things used to be.

Heathcliff: They used to be better.

Cathy: Don't pretend life hasn't improved for you.

Heathcliff: Life has ended for me.

[they pause and look off the balcony in silence]

Heathcliff: How can you stand here beside me and pretend not to remember? Not to know that my heart is breaking for you? That your face is the wonderful light burning in all this darkness?

Cathy: Heathcliff, no. I forbid it.

Heathcliff: Do you forbid what your heart is saying to you now?

    Cathy: It's saying nothing.

Heathcliff: I can hear it louder than the music. Oh, Cathy. Cathy.

Cathy: I'm not the Cathy that was. Can you understand that? I'm somebody else. I'm another man's wife, and he loves me. And I love him.

Heathcliff: If he loved you with all the power of his soul for a whole lifetime he couldn't love you as much as I do in a single day. Not he. Not the world. Not even you, Cathy, can come between us.

Cathy: Heathcliff, you must go away. You must leave this house and never come back to it. I never want to see your face again or listen to your voice again as long as I live.

Heathcliff: You lie! Why do you think I'm here tonight? Because you willed it. You willed me here across the sea.

  • Cathy: Heathcliff, make the world stop right here. Make everything stop and stand still and never move again. Make the moors never change and you and I never change.

Heathcliff: The moors and I will never change. Don't you, Cathy.

Cathy: I can't. I can't. No matter what I ever do or say, Heathcliff, this is me now; standing on this hill with you. This is me forever.
