This is a movie that weeps bitterly from beginning to end, but not a single tear.
Why are they crying?
The film is set in the Franco era after the Spanish Civil War. The scars of the civil war never healed. Too big a tragedy and was forcibly silenced. The father said to the sad clown: You have seen so many deaths, you will never laugh.
How can you laugh after so many tragedies. They want to cry. so what should I do now. They are clowns. Clowns are forbidden to cry. The Joker wants to make the audience laugh.
Only revenge, my father said, only revenge can make you happy. You can amuse the audience when you are happy.
It is in this absurd way of building relationships with people. S/M is the only lyric under a totalitarian regime.
But cry, cry that cannot be avoided. One day revenge becomes even crazier, when the reign is about to be destroyed.
Sad Joker walks across the street and sees terrorists assassinating the President. The happy clown made an ugly face, and he found it impossible to make people laugh.
Crying to the point where you can't hide it. There is no reasonable outlet for crying. It can only flow in the form of violence.
I won't talk about the cute elements, the sad clown's shape is too wonderful. circus. cross. I like it very much.
So I can understand very well. Why did the director say that this is a film with his personal password. Like the director, I've always fantasized about being able to dress up as a clown and perform, with deep sorrow, to amuse others.
Clowns are forbidden to cry, they can only laugh. So cry for absence. We do our best.
