- What are you looking for?
- A real freak.
Ok i have to say that really could be my motto..

(First of all, this is not a review, just an excerpt. But still want to say, although it is really not like the Diane Arbus we know , but you know that a director's enthusiasm for the characters and the depth of the background excavation when making biographical films are beyond our reach. Nicole has done enough research on the characters before executing it cautiously, so this film is actually Give us the possibility of a preview, don't criticize it with the depth of your understanding)

"I grew up feeling immune and exempt from circumstance. One of the things I suffered from was that I never felt adversity. I was confirmed in a sense of unreality."

Most people go through life dreading they'll have a traumatic experience.
- Diane Arbus

"In photographing the retarded," Malcolm writes, "[Arbus] waits for the moment of fullest expression of disability: she shows people who are slack-jawed, vacant, drooling, uncoordinated, uncontrolled, demented-looking. She does not flinch from the truth that difference is different, and therefore frightening, threatening, disgusting. She does not put herself above us -- she implicates herself in the accusation."

"Freaks was a thing I photographed a lot," she wrote. "It was one of the first things I photographed and it had a terrific kind of excitement for me. I just used to adore them. I still do adore some of them. I don't quite mean they're my best friends but they made me feel a mixture of shame and awe. There's a quality of legend about freaks. Like a person in a fairy tale who stops you and demands that you answer a riddle. Most people go through life dreading they'll have a traumatic experience. Freaks were born with their trauma. They've already passed their test in life. They're aristocrats."

"Once I had a dream that I was sitting On a luxury cruise ship, all the railings are plated with gold, the big ship is decorated like a wedding cake, there is smoke in the air, our ship is burning, and the people on the ship are drinking and gambling, I know The boat is sinking slowly, they all know it, but they are still very happy, they are singing and dancing, almost crazy, there is no hope of life, but I am also happy, I can shoot what I want to shoot anything."

Freaks have a legendary quality, like a character from a fairy tale, standing in your way and forcing you to answer a mystery. Most people live in fear that they will have no traumatic experience, and freaks are born with trauma, they have passed the test of life, they are gods.
