One movie, two views

I saw a statement earlier that in "Replicate as It Is", Abbas finally learned to play head and tail. This may be serious, which shows how deeply misunderstood Abbas is by ordinary people. This may also be ironic. It is actually not difficult to make a talkative film, but even if it is a dialogue, there are still too many long shots in this film. For example, if two people drive to see the painting in the screenshot, the duration is about ten minutes. A decade or two ago, Abbas must have taken a few long shots. He didn't let the characters appear, and took a quick shot of the scenery ahead or by the roadside. Another method is to hit the camera on the actor's face, close-up to the end, and pursue the ultimate. In "Reproduction as it is", the driving journey passes through the city and into the countryside, with background changes in the middle, and the camera also enters the driver's seat from the outside of the car body to show that the distance between the two is shortened. Apart from a few standard front and back fights, the jokes they cooperated with also showed the actor's line skills. Abbas also put the tree by the roadside in the dialogue. The whole paragraph can be regarded as very interesting.

Binoche plays a French woman with an identity but no name. She is proficient in French, English and Italian. However, Abbas is not Quentin, and "Replicate" does not pay attention to any translation and conversion, and the conflict erupts. If you notice a change in the language between the two sides, it's a sign that the characters' identities and relationships are beginning to shift, as the writers mostly only speak English in the first half. In fact, language does not give the audience a headache. What may cause the audience a headache is the discussion of artworks and replicas (fakes), such as the aesthetic philosophy and various doctrines that are full of New Wave movies. With the change of identities, the two also turned to the emotional proposition of middle-aged couples, the writer acted as a copy husband, and the movie became easier to understand.

The writer explains the inspiration for his creation, he saw a mother and son looking at a sculpture in Florence. The sculpture is not the real thing, but the son is still intoxicated. Coincidentally, the woman was also in Florence at the time, and her relationship with her son was also strained. Abbas explained Binoche's role as a replica. When the audience understands her, they can understand all the women in the previous "Shirin" (Shirin), so this character does not need a name, just a "counterpoint understanding".

If you think of "As Is" as a melodrama about a midlife crisis, the film is far from satisfactory. Limited by the amount of reading, many people only regard the film as a deep version of the "Sunrise and Sunset" series. However, Abbas said that "Reproduction" is closer to Rossellini's "Journey to Italy", Italy is also a background, it can also be Vienna, it can be Paris and Woody Allen's New York.

When watching a movie, it's easy for the audience to become empathetic, especially when they come across someone who is similar in some way to themselves. They don't feel that movie characters are fictional and out of reach. Instead, they feel authentic and full of emotion. So each movie is a copy of the game, the audience to repeat the experience.

At the end of "Reproduction as It is", Binoche, who is lying on the bed, closes his eyes, and the light is soft, like a quiet figure painting. The writer looks in the mirror, looks at himself, and at the same time, the audience, and then the window on the screen becomes a "film within a film", with the street scene of Tuscany outside, and the sound of bells. That moment seemed like fifteen years ago, when they met and fell in love, but this couple was not that couple. Obviously, Abbas did not deliberately change himself, he still paid attention to the essence of the film. Although it is not as extreme as "Princess Xilin", "Replica" still has experimental elements, and the performance of the actors in the opposite drama is even more unexpected. For example, in a cafe, the hesitation in Binoche's eyes is too real. . 【Southern Metropolis Daily】
