Truffau and "The Third Kind of Contact"

Recently I borrowed a collection of Truffau’s essays, "The Pleasure of the Eyes", which commented on many movies and filmmakers, including an article about his role as Claude in Spielberg’s "Third Kind of Contact" . Lacombe experience. One of his words made me very curious, "I am often asked if I want to make some comments or make some comments to my colleague Spielberg. The answer is no, never. I want to be the ideal actor in his eyes. Never complain, never make any request, nor make any suggestions. I just do what he asks. When he calls'stop', I turn my eyes to him like all actors in the world to see if he is satisfied "Usually, people always say that literati are indifferent. When a director expresses complete trust in his peers so humble and sincere, it is enough to arouse people's surprise.
This seems to be a movie without a first protagonist. 1. A child was taken away by an alien (the child walks in a weird and super cute posture, and looks a bit like Peng Yuyan); 2. An electrician turned his back on the family out of curiosity; 3. A group of people. Scientists try to establish contact with aliens. Truffaut has said that French movies are primarily concerned with characters, while American movies are primarily concerned with specific situations. In this movie, the three main lines each determine their fate by their character, and their final fate is intertwined in the panorama of the arrival of the spacecraft in the last scene. The big scenes of Hollywood and the spiritual core of the humanistic care of French films are now blended together.
As a classic science fiction film, the proportion of special effects in the film is of course needless to say. Although this sci-fi giant of the 1970s seems to have some flaws today. But no one can deny the shock that the grandeur of the scenes and visual impact brought to the soul (in contrast to Chinese science fiction films, it is hard to beat the momentum and sincerity of Chinese science fiction films). For example, at the beginning of the movie, the scene where scientists found an airplane in the desert was filmed in the Palmede Desert in California. The crew emptied sandbags in front of four huge rotating propellers, creating a very lively feel. Sandstorm. What’s interesting is that although the technology at the time was limited, people used their imaginations, such as squeezing white paint in warm water to shoot turbulent clouds; using a large number of overlapping methods, directly on the ground in the film editing. , Overhead, and in the sky overlap.
Truffaut also pointed out a scene in particular: Scientists applauded and congratulated each other after they came into contact with the second type of people. "This moment made people feel like the last scene of the film. The audience was disappointed. They hoped that the story would happen. Sure enough, after a while, someone looked towards the sky and he saw the turbulent and weird clouds in the sky... The film went from there. The famous third encounter starts again..."
For the role of electrician Roy, it was a bit confusing at first. His extremely strong curiosity lies in the fact that the alien's reaction after the first contact seems to be too extreme, a little hard to understand. But the director's emotional inclination was highlighted when Roy led the other two people to escape: the scientist played by Truffaut smiled with relief (or fascinating?) when he saw their resistance. This is also a portrayal of the contradictions within the scientist himself. At the end of the film, the scientist said to Roy, I am jealous of you. This sentence gave the character a soul, and it exposed the weakness of a scientist. How did Roy become the candidate to be sent to outer space? Why did he only board the spaceship in the end?
At the end of the film, there is no further explanation of Roy's family. It seems that when his wife flees with the children, they no longer hold him in any way. Since then, his performance has completely divorced from ordinary people, and it gives people the feeling that he has finally broken away from the rules of the society, returned to the self, and only follows his own heart. After he kissed and hugged the child's mother, for a moment I mistakenly thought they would have another line of affection. But Roy is no longer that kind of person. Perhaps he has been freed from human society. What he is asking is the truth of the universe. A completely free person always has a temperament of ecstasy, perhaps this is why scientists would sincerely envy him.

It was the second time I saw Truffaut acting in a story after working day and night. In general, Director Stuart always likes to drag on for more than 130 minutes, and he also tells some inexplicable things, but people in the 1970s will definitely be shocked and stunned when they see the last spaceship. The setting of human and alien creatures communicating with music is also good

Facts have proved that Spielberg is really not suitable for writing the script by himself. The film is very thunderous regardless of the overall view or a single paragraph. In fact, we can see the fear and tendency of avoiding people in the 1970s, but such a story really can’t support these thoughts! Especially at the end, with JW's magnificent soundtrack, I really can't help but laugh...
