In war I shed blood, in peace I can't walk...

A film about historical truth, a film about memory, this is the one of the highest literary and artistic value among similar films I have ever seen; a film within a play, this is one of the similar films I have ever seen, A film with the highest narrative skills; a group-like segmented film, this is the most natural, most sincere and emotionally accurate film among similar films I have ever seen.

Do you know how Hitler convinced them that his plan (to kill, to destroy the entire Jewish nation) could be successful? He said: "Who will remember the Armenians?"

This is actually the humanistic value of this film. The thinking it arouses is not limited to the history of the slaughter of Armenians around 1915, but more importantly, it Remind you to think, do we realize what is history and what is truth, what is the value of truth, the power of time, human beings with memories and forgetfulness, small human beings in history, what beliefs are, where do they come from, What is the value and meaning, hatred, forgiveness...

Today is a special day, maybe we forget more, or to be precise, we don't know ourselves at all.

Walked past the art theater last Thursday night and the staff let me watch it for free. I don't know this history, but the narration of the film made me understand that this is also a struggle of ethnic minorities against the majority. A moment of silence for the suffering of this nation.

The content is too heavy, the form is not so important

Ararat quotes

  • Clarence Ussher: [Ani has interrupted his performance] What is this? God-damnit! We're surrounded by Turks. We've run out of supplies, most of us will die. The crowd needs a miracle, this child is bleeding to death. If I can save his life, it may give us the spirit to continue. This is his brother... his pregnant sister was raped in front of his eyes, before her stomach was slashed open, to stab her unborn child. His father's eyes were gouged out of his head and stuffed into his mouth. And his mother's breasts were ripped off. She was left to bleed to death. Who the *fuck* are you?

  • Ali, actor playing Jevdet Bey: [as Jevdet Bey, holds up photo] This your mother? She's given you this photograph so that you may remember her. Look at it now. This is the face of a woman who's raised you to feel superior to us. She's taught you that Turks are vengeful and ignorant. That we're blood-thirsty. Now I am going to teach you something. For what is about to happen to you people is your own fault. As much as you talk about your prophet, Jesus Christ, in the depths of your souls you believe in *nothing*, but commerce and money! My streets are overrun with your markets and moneylenders. Your greed has let us to corruption and ruin. Now you yourselves will be ruined.
