After revisiting "My Father and Mother", I decided to go to Bao Shi's original book "Memorial" to read. Since "My Father and Mother" is a beautiful love movie, I preconceived that "Memorial" would be a beautiful love novel, but after reading the original book, what shocked me the most is that there is no such thing in "Memorial" at all. The descriptions of young mothers and young fathers, that is to say, the most beautiful color clips in the film, that is, the part played by Zhang Ziyi, all first appeared in director Zhang Yimou's mind. Later, Zhang Yimou asked Bao Shi to change the novel into a movie script, and I went to read the script of "My Father and Mother". Frankly speaking, the script of "My Father and Mother" is still quite different from what I imagined. It's big, the language is unpretentious, and the whole story is far less soulful and touching than the movie looks like. This fully demonstrates Zhang Yimou's extraordinary talent, because his touch-up processing and handling have given a beautiful color to an otherwise bland story. Whether it is Zhang Ziyi, who is young and without makeup, melodious background music, excellent art and photography, all make the film born out of novels and higher than novels. This is the real artistic processing and the real director's charm.
On the other hand, I watched "Love Has Afterlife" and "Letter from a Strange Woman" some time ago. During the whole process of watching the movie, I could feel the original novels. I went back to read the original works "Ginkgo Ginkgo" and "The Story of a Strange Woman". Letter", which is not far from what I imagined, that is to say, the two female directors of these two films just translated the novels into movies, but failed to re-process them. It must be said that it is not a pity.
Although it is said that in order to reduce the risk of the film, the two female directors chose a lot of monologue themes for the first time, but from these three films, it can be seen that Zhang Yimou is not in vain, he knows what effect he wants, and can achieve the desired effect.
PS. The following comments include Bao Shi's original novel "Memorial" and the revised novel "My Father and Mother" at Zhang Yimou's request. The latter has the same content as the movie.
