My favorite part of the first half is the part where Nestor first came to Irma's room, kindly blocked the window with sheets of newspapers, and undressed awkwardly. Jack Lemon's performance was sincere and humorous, and it got me started. Love this shy fired little cop. He has no career and no handsome appearance, but won a beautiful love with a kind heart. However, the maintenance of love still needs money, this is useless, no one can escape.
Irma wants to earn money to support Nestor, of course Nestor feels uncomfortable. There is a saying that love is selfish, and even the body should be enjoyed exclusively. Don't say that Nestor can't stand Irma's sex, even Irma can't stand someone kissing Nestor? And love is pure, and can't stand the slightest taint of money. When they hear Irma's sentence "It's not me that you love, it's the 500 francs a week", I believe many viewers will be saddened. Interestingly, when Nestor's crime was changed from having an affair to murder, he actually won Irma's heart again. It turns out that love can't get money, but murder can. It's really unreasonable.
Fortunately, in the end Nestor's grievances were snowed, and the lovers were able to reunite. I would also like to thank the uncle with a moustache who has experienced a lot. Some people say that they don't like some of the passages in this film that can't stand up to scrutiny. In fact, the character of the moustache has long set a somewhat surreal tone for the film. So when we see Nestor escaping from prison, escaping a face-to-face search in his apartment, and the spooky final scene of the film, we don't have to take it too seriously. There's no need for any movie to be as rigorous as "Passion Like Fire", just enjoy it when it's time to enjoy FUN. Watching Jack Lemmon carrying pork and laying cabbage with rich expressions and body movements, and watching Shirley MacLaine dance brilliantly on the table for 500 francs, I didn't know whether to cry or laugh in front of the screen. "Life is a war, and no one can refuse to be a soldier." We are not even commanders and can't decide whether we can fight a good battle. Therefore, all we can do is be sincere to ourselves and be responsible to the people we love, even if it is "using complex methods to win a simple life", it is enough.
