The story is too bland

This is one of Meryl Streep's 15 Oscar nominations, and it was a bit strange to see why the movie with the actress nomination was only 6.5 points on imdb. After watching it, I understand that although this is a film adapted from a real story, the whole film is too bland, and the performance of contradiction, pain, love and understanding is a little less powerful.
Roberta Guaspari, played by Meryl, was abandoned by her husband and raised her two sons alone. In order to make a living, she worked as a violin teacher in Harlem, where black people gathered. The violin is notoriously difficult to learn, and many parents in the school have little interest in their children learning the violin, but with Roberta's ten years of perseverance, the violin class has become one of the most popular courses in the school. But a notice from the Education Bureau broke the happy teaching. In order to keep the course, Roberta held a performance with the students at Carnegie Hall with the support of many well-known musicians, and finally achieved the purpose of continuing the course. .
It looks like a very touching story. I heard that a documentary was also made, but it is a bit mediocre when it is made into a movie. It may be because of the limited adaptation of the original story. Just think about how "Mei Lanfang" was made. . It is worth mentioning that Meryl Streep learned the violin for four months for this play, no wonder she played the violin in the movie. Thinking of her saying that before the filming of "Mamma Mia", she practiced a song over a hundred times behind closed doors at home, and it's not hard to imagine how much effort she put into practicing the violin. But this can also be said to be a fun part of the profession of an actor. For filming, if you have time and conditions, you can learn some very new things. If you don't know how to play the piano, you can learn to play the piano. Learn to play cards, experience life everywhere, read various novels, learn various languages...and all in the name of work, of course I can make money because of it...Envy~~

Music of the Heart quotes

  • Roberta Guaspari: This beautiful concert that you've just heard could be the very last concert for the East Harlem Violin Program. The board of education and the district attorney think that music isn't important. But they are wrong! And they're gonna get a *big* fight!

    [thunderous applause]

  • Roberta Guaspari: [to her students right before a big concert] I want you all to take a second and just... breathe. Deep breaths. Now listen to me. I want you all to play from your heart. Forget about the audience, watch me, you'll do just fine. Just play from here.

    [puts hand over her heart]

    Roberta Guaspari: Okay?
