Man is a compromised species and indulges in the illusion of taking it for granted

This movie is depressive enough. If "The World of Trumen" makes us doubt the authenticity of life, then this "The City of Moving Souls" is enough to make us doubt our doubts again.
While we doubt life itself, we also discover that it is impossible for us to artificially plan to implement another set of programs to make us live in the so-called real world. Just like the male protagonist in the film, he accidentally knew the secrets of the entire city. Although he finally had the ability to change reality, he still couldn't go beyond the foundation of the original city to restore everything to the life implanted in memory. The heel of the pontoon that stretched out to the sea was still a tall concrete wall, and we could not see the endless sandy beach. The male protagonist knows that everything is just an illusion while still maintaining the feelings with the female protagonist. This reveals the essence of love-hallucinations. Everything can be fake. As long as people voluntarily fall into this hallucination at this moment, then nothing else matters. . There is nothing in our world that can be called absolute truth, everything is only temporary and relative. The protagonist and heroine were originally strangers, but the fictional memory has shaped them into a pair of lovers, so their feelings at this moment are real, and the truth is no longer important.
The film did spend a lot of effort to render the black style, which is also the reason why the whole film is depressing. The black theme is expressed with black art, so there is no humorous element here.
The film attempts to make us rethink the relationship between people and society and between people, but it is obvious that the intention is straightforwardly embodied in a large-scale dialogue that explains the background, instead of using the plot to make the audience explore by themselves. The level of stunts in 1998 is indeed very strong, but the design of stunt scenes is obviously too rough. For example, the treatment of injecting sea water outside the entire city is both lacking in imagination and out of reality.
In addition, some plots of this film are obviously contradictory. According to the rules given in the film, everybody will go into shock or fall asleep suddenly at twelve o'clock, so how do the cars on the road stop? Does everyone have to be moved and changed identities every day? Obviously not. The heroine and the detective were suspended while driving, and then resumed. This plot shows that not everyone is replaced every day, so while continuing the memory of the previous day, they will find familiar urban architecture and understanding. Wouldn’t it be doubtful that the person’s change? And everyone is carried to another place by aliens. The workload is obviously astonishing. Why don't they use smarter methods if they have the ability to change matter? (The screenwriter is not smart enough?) The
above is just a question about part of the plot. Those who are interested can pay attention to it. If they don’t think it is necessary to discuss it, they can naturally bypass it. After all, there are questions in science fiction itself. Mistakes will greatly reduce the conception of this science fiction movie as a classic.
