I wrote this film review because my father liked the film very much, but he said that it was a little bit fragmented and it was a bit difficult to understand. I went through the novel and watched the movie twice and sorted out the chronological order. My father said it was very useful. If anyone else reads this and finds it helpful, I will be very satisfied. This article is written in actual chronological order, and the sequence of movie plots is shown in parentheses. 1. Before World War II, the British intelligence agency "Circle" was established, namely Circle, which is called the circus in the film. Joining members include Smiley, Bill Haydn, Percy Allerin, Jim Pledo, Toby East and more. 2. In the early 1950s, Bill Haydn was bought by Kara, the leader of the Soviet intelligence agency, and became a double agent. 3. In 1955, the Soviet intelligence agencies were purged. Smiley went to persuade Kara, a Soviet spy who was likely to be executed after returning to China, to return to Britain, but he did not succeed. At that time, Smiley gave him a lighter with his wife Ann's name engraved on him, and Cara saw that he loved his wife deeply. Cara survived a catastrophe after returning home, and made a comeback. He also used Smalley’s feelings for his wife to arrange for Bill Haydn to hook up, so that Smalley could not calmly face the real ghost Bill Haydn (film 14). 4. In 1963, Kara sent the Soviet spy Polyyakov. Lurking in the UK, the task is to connect with Bill Haydn. 5. Soon, the "research queen" of Yuanchang (a female spy who is particularly good at researching and analyzing archives) Connie found that Polyyakov was quite suspicious, but she handed it over to Percy Allerin and Toby Yi The report by Stejas was not taken seriously. (Film ⑧) 6. Bill Haydn introduced a source of intelligence to Percy Alleryne, who was eager for promotion, code-named "The Wizard" (in fact, this person does not exist). Provide a lot of information (video ⑥). If Percy Allerin won the treasure, he applied for the special fund and left the boss to go it alone (Video ③). He rented an apartment in London as a place to exchange information with Polyyakov. As a matter of fact, what Britain got was the defective products and fakes provided by the Soviet side, but the Soviet side got a lot of high-quality intelligence from Bill Haydn, and planned to use Britain as a bridge to obtain the ultimate goal, which is American intelligence. 7. The experienced boss discovered the doubts and sorted out a large amount of old information by himself, and finally locked the suspects on five people, and used the pot maker with the most trusted spy and long-time close friend of Bill Haydn, Jim Pledo. (Percy Alleren), tailor (Bill Haydn), soldier (Roy Brand), poor (Toby Easthaus), beggar (George Smalley) as their Codename. (Film 17) 8. The bottom spy, Ricky Tal, went to Hong Kong to monitor a Soviet trade delegation, focusing on one representative, Boris, and waiting for an opportunity to persuade him to submit to Britain. But Ricky Tal decided to give up after repeated deliberations (because Boris is really a spy and came to lure British spies out of the hole). Before he was ready to return to China, Boris' wife Irina decided to surrender to Britain through him. As a meeting ceremony, she revealed an important piece of information that there was a high-level spy planted by Kara in the round field. The secret telegram sent by Ricky Tal back to the United Kingdom was seen by the inner ghost. Kara acted immediately, delayed time, withdrew the Soviet delegation, killed Boris, Irina was knocked unconscious and kidnapped back home disguised as a wounded, another British man The spy was killed, Ricky Tal was framed and had to escape (film 12). 9. In 1972, the boss sent Jim Pledo secretly to Hungary to meet with a general who was about to defect. This general knew who the ghost of the British Umba was. Jim Pledo's deeds were sold to Cara by Bill Haydn and shot. Cara was present at the time (the lighter was given to the camera) (at the beginning of the film ①). Although Jim survived, he was tortured, because Kara wanted to know how much information the British had on the ghost. Irina was shot and killed in front of Jim Pledo. (Video 18) 10. The news of Jim Pledo's failure spread to the United Kingdom. The boss was hit hard and he couldn't afford to be ill. In addition, he must be responsible for the action and retired soon. Percy Alleline takes over. A group of subordinates close to the boss, such as Smiley and Connie, were forced to retire (film ②). The boss later died alone in the hospital. 11. In 1973, Jim Pledo, who was released by the Soviet Union, was incognito as a contemporary teacher in a rural elementary school in the UK. Established a friendship with the little boy Bill Lodge (film⑩) 12. At the same time, Ricky Tal, who had evaporated for several months, quietly returned to England (has been regarded as a defecting spy by Yuanchang), contacted the Secretary of Defense Lacan and informed him There are ghosts in the round field (video ④). 13. Lacan finds Peter Gilliam, who was shunned by Percy Allerlain, and Smalley, who has retired, to investigate. Smiley started investigating in a small hotel. They found a chess piece marked with five suspects in the boss's house (video ⑤). The color and identity of the chess pieces have actually hinted who is the inner ghost. 14. Smalley sent Peter Gilliam to get a list of the resigned employees after the boss retired. Among them, there may be people who have interfered with the inner ghost and have been eliminated. Later, when I visited Connie, I learned important information about Polyyakov (film ⑦). 15. Ricky Tal visited Smelly and talked about his experience (film 11). Smalley inferred that the inner ghost could read Ricky. Tal telegram (the telegram is of high level and only a few people can read it). So Smalley sent Peter Gillham to the archives of Yuanchang to steal Ricky Tal's telegram for the night's duty record, and found that the page had been torn off. Smiley clears Ricky Tal's charge in front of Peter Gillum (film 13). 16. When analyzing the Yuanchang Funds Account, Smiley discovered that there was a suspicious flow of funds, and the payee's name was a pseudonym of Jim Pledo. He concluded that Jim Pledo may not be dead (film ⑨). He finds the latter, and the latter tells him what happened at the time (Video 16). 17. Smalley found the person who was sent by the boss to guard the telegram on the day of the accident, and learned that the telegram of the accident arrived in the early hours of the morning, and no one was present except Bill Haydn who rushed there quickly. After the telegram arrived, there was a call to Smiley's home to inform that it was his wife's answer. Based on all previous signs, Smiley thought of Bill Haydn's adultery with Ann (Video 15). 18. After Smalley obtained authorization from Lacan, the arrest operation began (Video 19). First of all, Toby Isterhas, the lowest and weakest in the airport intimidation of suspects (falling to Percy’s wall after the boss’s loss), obtained the address of the apartment connected to Polyyakov. (Video 20). Then, Smiley sent Ricky Tal to pretend to attack the British intelligence station and inform Yuanchang that he has important information about the inner ghost. After several high-level suspects had an internal meeting and discussed, the inner ghost rushed to the joint and reported to Polyyakov (Video 21). 19. The truth is revealed. 20. Before being sent to the Soviet Union, Bill Haydn explained his motives for being a spy and his relationship with his wife to Smiley who visited him. 21. Bill Haydn was assassinated by Jim Pledo. 22. Smiley became the new head of Yuanchang and reconciled with his wife. A little bit of background below. This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by John Le Carré. John Le Carré himself had been a spy for MI6 for decades. During his tenure, six British spies plunged into the Soviet Union and were eventually exposed. The Potsmith was inspired by this. His famous works include "Berlin Bournemouth", "The Perfect Spy" and so on. The former has also been adapted into a movie, which is very exciting. The latter is on my bookshelf and tells the story of a father and son spy. The language is beautiful and the structure is complicated. I like it very much. Le Carré's book is completely different from the glamorous spy stories like 007. The spies in his pen are all living under heavy pressure, and the ending is generally not good. Instead, it’s the story closest to the real spy, because he himself Used to be in this line. The background of the story is that when the new world order began to be established after World War II, the veteran power, the United Kingdom, fell, and the new powers, the United States and the Soviet Union, rose. The colony gradually became independent and its international status plummeted. The decline of Britain brought a heavy psychological blow to those old British spies who still miss the old era. Since then, Britain has always had a complicated feeling for the United States. Compared with the United States, which made a lot of war fortune and only invested when the war was about to end, the Soviet Union, which fought side by side with the British in the Second World War against the Nazis and had enough strength to compete with the United States after the war, was closer emotionally. This is the fundamental motive behind Bill Haydn's choice to defect. In the film, everyone sings the British national anthem, Peter recites British poems, etc. are all ways to express this emotion. Compared with the novel, the film cuts a lot of plots and adds a lot of details to facilitate understanding. The original book originally started with the little boy Bill Lodge secretly observing the new teacher Jim Pledo. The idyllic atmosphere of the English countryside is in stark contrast to Jim Pledo's thrilling experience before. But the movie is only two hours long, and there is no time to cook it so slowly, so it is cut directly from Jim's shooting, which also disrupts the sequence of the subsequent novels. The shooting incident is more detailed than the novel, and the screenwriter has added a lot of imagination, such as the woman holding the child behaved cruelly, the lighter shot hinted that Kara was there and so on. The most important of the added details is the part where Smiley changed his glasses. All the parts of his memories are golden tortoiseshell frames; all the stories that happened in reality after his retirement are all black frames. The original scene in the movie, the most brilliant is the Christmas ball. The connections and emotions between all the characters at the ball are in it. For example, the boss's dissatisfaction with Percy, the relationship between Bill Haydn and Jim Pride, and Ann, and so on. John Le Carré himself made a cameo (the old man with white beard and white hair) and sang the Soviet national anthem with everyone. The movie needs to use this collective scene to show the true relationship between the characters on the surface. There are two gay couples in the movie. The pair is the same as in the novel, Bill Haydn and Jim Predo. Lovers for more than twenty years, and the last one betrayed the other and he was shot, the latter assassinated the former. The other pair is not in the novel, Peter and his unknown lover. In the movie, Smiley reminds Peter to deal with the relationship he may be caught by his opponent as soon as possible. He bids farewell to a man. It is estimated that the film is to show that the spy is involuntarily involuntarily emotional. In the novel, Peter is heterosexual and has a girlfriend who likes music. He is also married in "Smiley's Horse", and the marriage is happy.
