This is a very quiet "revenge" movie, and I think it is very close to the real human nature. Movies about revenge have never been interrupted, but what the audience sees is mostly a tug of war between black and white. This time, the film director simply put all the characters into a gray area.
The gangster whose girlfriend was beaten to death by the police returns to the countryside, finds an enemy by accident, but is still hesitant, so he anesthetizes himself with cookie cutter work; the policeman who killed the "female thief" has been living peacefully, but for the first time " Gunfights” and killings are on the verge of collapse; police wives who are waiting for the chance to get pregnant have been following the rules, but they seduce the “Avengers” again and again for unknown reasons… Isn’t this also a microcosm of us in reality? Before doing everything, there are too many things to consider, too many sudden thoughts in your mind, leading you to make unexpected actions. "Vengeance" is not so pure in reality, especially in this world where matter is greater than everything, everyone has a predetermined plan in their hearts.
In addition to revenge, the film also talks about the difference between urban and rural development. Living in a storm may be difficult, but you finally learn how to endure it; a quiet life makes you feel free, but you can't stand the little waves in life. The maintenance of human relations may ironically rely on lies. Who is right and who is wrong, or it doesn't matter anymore. There is nothing new under the sun. When tragedy strikes, suppressing the turbulent mood is actually the way most people choose. Compromise seems to be "wisdom of life". Let yourself lose more.
Ripples appeared on the lake, but they disappeared when the wind blew. However, peace does not mean true peace, and the scars will never heal. Pain lasts a lifetime.
The film technique is not the point. This is another set of masterpieces that has a lingering voice and penetrates the hearts of the audience. There is absolutely a reason to be nominated for one of the best foreign language films at the Oscars.
