From January 7th to 8th, 1988, Company 9, 3rd Battalion, 345th Independent Airborne Regiment, 40th Army of the Soviet Army guarded Hill 3234, which controlled the Gardez-Khorst Highway, for several days and nights. It repelled the multiple attacks of more than 300 anti-government armed "black detachments" commanded by Hadab and bin Laden. Six people in the company were sacrificed and 28 people were injured. The battle was extremely fierce and cruel. The firepower caused huge damage to the enemy, and Wo himself organized reinforcements, the rebels were defeated, and bin Laden was also seriously injured and fled. This heroic Nine Company is the prototype of the sensational "Ninth Company". In 2005, the company's deeds were put on the screen and the film "Ninth Company" was filmed, and this film became a symbol of the Russian military spirit. On February 11, 1989, Colonel Vostrokin led the entire regiment to evacuate Afghanistan. In May 1989, he was appointed as the commander of the 98th Airborne Division of the Moscow Military Region. In 1990, he was awarded a major general. Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Situation, appointed as a general in 1999, and elected as a full-time member of the Security Affairs Committee of the Russian State Duma in 2003. He was awarded the Gold Star Medal for Heroes of the Soviet Union, the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner, the Order of the Red Flag, two Orders of the Red Star, the "Star" Order of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan, the Order of Military Merit, the Order of Valor, and the Order of Service to the Motherland in the Armed Forces of the Soviet Union.
