I paused a lot while watching this movie because I was so excited to have room to scream. Viva Placebo Viva Placebo Viva Placebo! The music in the movie is really top notch. Then the more I saw it, the more I couldn't bear to slap the thigh: "What a brilliant and talented screenwriter~" The director is not bad, and has the exquisite flavor of an independent film. Seriously, after watching this I can totally understand why a low-budget indie film can find so many stars, and even the soundtrack is James Horner from Titanic and Braveheart. If I were a star, I would be willing to reduce N times my worth to perform for such an excellent film.

This film mainly focuses on teenagers, making fun of the most standard and normal social and family life in the United States. Did someone say this movie is weird? I don't think so at all, I think it's a hilarious movie, and it's as sharp as Michael Moore.

I find that I love all the movies that satirize America's standard middle-class society, because it is a society that is too hypocritical and restrained. How many people always say some flattering and decent words with a sweet smile on the surface, but in their hearts they are not slanders, but don't care. Ignorance, Indifference, this is the biggest feeling that American standard society and interpersonal relationships give me, and it is also what I think this film wants to highlight. I don't think that's even an exact feeling of "indifference", because "indifference" people can at least be aware of the existence of something and choose not to care. And Ignorance, "ignoring," is simply not aware of it, and thus not at all about choosing to care or not to care.

Maybe the example used in this film is a little more dramatic. For example, his own child kidnapped others, but his parents didn't agree; his own child was kidnapped, and his parents didn't even know; the bride didn't think about it except "Do you love me?" Getting to know each other's minds and feelings in the past; funerals becoming a place for people to socialize and flirt... In this case, it's no wonder that when Dean found out about his best friend's suicide, he didn't even tell his friend's parents, he said: " I don't think you guys care."

You don't notice Dean grinning every time the people around him are in a mess of self-righteousness. What kind of condescending attitude is this? Every time he laughs, I want to laugh wildly, I want to laugh at this society, but I can't laugh.

I think the only downfall of the movie is the ending, which is pretty vulgar. But I forgive you, a few minutes of shit is better than just a few minutes of goodness.

  • [Dean answers the phone to Billy]

    Dean Stiffle: ...What?

    Billy: Dean?

Dean Stiffle: What do you want?

    Billy: We got Charlie.

    Dean Stiffle: Who?

Billy: Your brother. We kidnapped your brother.

Dean Stiffle: What are you talking about, man?

Billy: I got him right now, man. He's scared shitless.

Dean Stiffle: [pauses] Why did you kidnap my brother?

Billy: So you know I'm not fucking around, I want the stuff from Troy.

Dean Stiffle: I already told you...

Billy: [Interrupting] I don't think you're listening. You are going to *get* me Troy's drugs.

    Dean Stiffle: Or what?

    Billy: Don't push me, psycho!

Dean Stiffle: [Dean walks downstairs and finds his brother sitting on the couch] ... Or what?

Billy: I'll kill him. That's what, I'm going to kill him... I'm not fucking around man, I swear to God, I'll cut off his fucking head!

Dean Stiffle: [pauses to look at his brother] Fine. Kill him.

    [Billy hangs up]

Crystal Falls: What did he say?

Billy: ...Maybe he really is crazy.

Crystal Falls: Billy, what did he say?

Billy: He said for us to kill him.

  • Charley Bratley: So, who are you guys calling?
