I just finished watching the first season of "Youth Royal Family" today.
The film is only six short episodes, but it is powerful.
At the beginning, I saw that William had to go to an aristocratic private school because he was used by people with intentions to spread the film on the Internet, and then when the school and Simon fell in love at first sight, I thought it would probably be a traditional fairy tale. But after seeing it, I found that the story is not so simple.
William, the second child of the royal family. From birth, he wanted to live the life of an ordinary person, so he went to the school where ordinary children study, but was forced by reality to face the identity he was born with-the prince, the identity of the royal family was more than that to him. Glory is more like a shackle, but fortunately he has an older brother who has taken on a greater responsibility for him.
Simon, the child of an ordinary family. The father was addicted to alcohol and drugs, and the mother finally had to leave with the children after trying hard to dissuade them. In order to give the children a better life, she worked hard to have both children attend expensive elite schools. And he himself is working hard to have a better life.
Such Simon, to William, may be like the wind of freedom that can occasionally blow under the "shackles" of the royal family. Therefore, attraction is inevitable to some extent. It's like a respite that needs to be relaxed.
And the latter two, approaching, hiding on orientation night, kissing on horror movie night…
At first, William denied this feeling, but in the end, unable to resist his inner desire, he proposed to meet, but the sudden death of his brother interrupted all this.
The death of my brother means that he becomes the crown prince, which means that responsibility means that this budding relationship has to be interrupted.
The two cut off contact, and William even deleted Simon's phone.
But when he got lost by chance one day, the person who appeared in his heart was still him. I like you. When I was lying on the playground, I saw the man who was running towards me because of my phone call, the man who I thought about day and night, and decided to follow my heart.
Two people, hugging, kissing, spending the night. Everything seemed so sweet and warm, but an accident still appeared.
This accident was Augustus, William's distant cousin.
August, his father died, he was sent to school by his mother, and the family went bankrupt, but he insisted on his father's title and property. It seemed incomprehensible to outsiders, but for him, it represented the deepest part of his heart. Beloved father. He was pampered since he was a child, and in the eyes of outsiders he lived a carefree and carefree life. Love, so he chose to expose the video of William and Simon in his hand. Although the method was naive and hateful, at that moment, he was almost irrational, and he made this decision to some extent to know why.
After the exposure of the video, the power of public opinion can be imagined.
Simon and William have become people's talking points after dinner. One can imagine the Internet violence, the media...
Then William asked Simon to meet, and after the meeting, they complained to each other. Simon thought that William would choose to fight against the outside world for him, but in the end, William chose his own responsibility.
When I saw this, I thought that was the end of the show. However, in the end, there was a sudden reversal. In order to protect the royal family, the queen knew the initiator, but she pretended to be stupid. This blow made William's heart of love and responsibility swerve to one side again. In the end, he chose to face his heart bravely. Before leaving school at Christmas, he hugged the one he loved fiercely.
Although my shoulders are still immature, please wait for me, I will eventually take you by my side with a better attitude.
Another point that I want to mention at the core of the play is the so-called class and destiny, and William Simon's resistance to this class and destiny.
There are two snippets I would like to mention here.
The first is the conversation between the Queen and William in the car after the incident. William once again questioned the responsibility he was born with, and the Queen's remarks were impressive, presumably to mean this: no one wants to take that responsibility. But, this is fate, you have to accept it. As a royal family, you have an obligation to maintain the royal family.
Do I have to accept the so-called fate? Although it is a responsibility and an obligation, what does it bring me? Will I give up the person I love like a mother for this? I think in the end William's choice gave us the answer.
The second is that after the video was exposed, William publicly stated that the video was not his, the first meeting between the two. Simon told William that he did not want to be his secret lover, and that there was no need for anyone to be at his mercy.
This is probably a typical denial of class in the two. In love, you and I are equal, and there is no need for anyone to compromise, even if you are a prince. I think this is also the true meaning of love.
This is not only a love story, but also a history of teenage growth. In addition to William and Simon, Firth's resistance to his mother, Sarah's transformation, and online public opinion and cyber violence... are all parts worthy of discussion and reflection.
Finally, back to the two protagonists.
True, as the poster shows, I kiss the crown and I kiss you.
Looking forward to the second season in 2022.
