In my opinion, this film has three story lines and three distinct characters, which echo and complement each other, which is quite ironic. At the same time, we will have a question in our hearts, "What is human nature?"
Lila is a woman with congenital hirsutism. Her hair follicles grow hair, which is somewhat atavistic. She looks like a monkey. discrimination and isolation. She chose to return to nature, to get rid of the constraints or restrictions brought by these civilizations to her. She was confused and puzzled that she was no different from others except for her appearance, but she was regarded as an alien. She believed that this was a kind of civilization. defile.
Nathan is a typical dogmatist. He received the best education and strictest teaching. In a serious family, he was instilled in every aspect of the idea of conformity from an early age. The life of classes, the civilization that distinguishes the difference between the great and ape animals. But he always has some strict "table manners", such that the unique culture of human civilization appears as his paranoia.
Like Lila and Nathan, one side chooses naturalism that respects one's inner will and returns to nature, while the other chooses dogmatism that is practical and practical, and falls in love, but in Nathan, Lila has congenital hirsutism and needs frequent shaving. Mao, their relationship fell apart. Lila is also deeply poisoned by "civilization". Even though she chooses to live a natural life that ignores the opinions and evaluations of others, she respects her inner life and emotions as well as her love, but the side of her love is a practical dogmatist. She will still be deeply influenced and even changed by these "civilizations", so it will be an inevitable result that she chooses to give up herself for love, but at the same time, she can also insist on herself.
Later, they met Puff, a human who was raised by orangutans. He had no contact with human civilization, but after long-term training and teaching, he instilled human civilization, and he was a very good member who was connected with the orbit of human society.
However, there seem to be two kinds of values here, dealing with the question of "what is human nature": one is that "human nature" should not be tainted by human civilization, without the cunning and deceit of human society; According to the dogma of human civilization, these and those things should not be done, because this is not allowed in a civilized society.
But the end of the movie does not seem to give a definite answer to this question, but the ending is very ironic. Puff just pretended to return to nature in front of the public, hated the fraud of human society, and then went to the new world with another woman. This explains one point: animal nature to human nature is irreversible.
