The film is based on a novel written by British author Emily Bronte. A classic love story. Heathcliff and Catherine's childhood sweetheart love, and the story that happened between Heathcliff and Catherine who ran away and returned.

A wild, cloudy wasteland in which a lone woman in a cloak walks. She pushed open the door of the abandoned manor and slowly told a story about love, hate and revenge. The story begins with the arrival of a stranger and ends with the stranger's witness.

On a snowy night, Mr Earnshaw, the owner of Wuthering Heights, brought back a gypsy boy named Heathcliff. The kind-hearted old Earnshaw raised him with his children and treated him as his own.

Heathcliff was a taciturn boy in the old Earnshaw family, and Cathy gradually became fascinated with him because of this, and secretly fell in love with Heathcliff, from childhood to childhood. But Cathy's brother Hindley sees Heathcliff as an intruder and a lowly man.

After the death of the old Earnshaw, Heathcliff, who lost his asylum, was often beaten and ostracized by Hindley. Hindley forbids Heathcliff and Cathy from contacting him, but that doesn't stop Heathcliff and Cathy's affection, which makes them feel more deeply the joy of being in each other's company.

That day, Cathy closed her eyes, and Heathcliff pressed against her ear, whispering, "If when you open your eyes, the sky will be clear, and your future will be like that sky; If there are dark clouds, it is your destiny." When Cathy opened her eyes again, the sky was really cloudy and thunder was roaring. Cathy felt that what Heathcliff said was like a curse. She didn't know what Heathcliff did? She doesn't care, she doesn't believe that all this will actually happen.

One day, the two of them sneaked to Thrush Manor. Cathy was injured in the process of being chased by servants, and was arranged by Mr. Linton to rest in Thrush Manor, while Heathcliff was driven back to Wuthering Heights. Old Linton's son Edgar also appeared in Cathy's life as a result, and the two gradually developed a good feeling in three months. In the days that followed, everything seemed to be cursed by this sentence.

Three months later, everything has changed. Cathy actually agreed to Edgar's proposal. She knew that if she condescended to marry Heathcliff she would not be approved and blessed. A marriage without wishes is like being cursed, and it is impossible to be so happy. But she still loved Heathcliff deeply. He and Edgar were two very different spirits, like fire in the ice. Her love for Edgar was like a leaf in a bush, which time would change and wither when the cold came. But her love for Heathcliff was like an unchanging rock underground, and he was the source of her sensual, real, needed joy. Cathy feared losing him, he was her life force, her soul. Without him, she could not find happiness and comfort in her life. But she still lost him that rainy night, and he disappeared as soon as he ran to the swamp...

After Cathy married Edgar, although the two had huge ideological differences, they lived happily because of Edgar's accommodation. Years later, returning home, Heathcliff seeks revenge on Hindley and Linton. Heathcliff bought Wuthering Heights from Hindley and became the owner of the estate. Because Hindley's beloved wife, Frances, died in childbirth before Heathcliff disappeared, leaving Hindley and his child Hareton. Hindley couldn't stand such a big mental blow, and he lived in the smell of alcohol all day long. He had already owed a lot of debts and used the manor as collateral. Even the rest of the property was mortgaged to Heathcliff and made his servants.

Heathcliff finally appeared in front of Cathy. He ceased to be a servant, and became more and more gentle and strong. Cathy was full of joy, but she didn't know that the person she loved came in response to the "curse" that day, and her life would be clouded by his reappearance. She didn't know that the person he loved in front of her was for revenge.

He intends to be close to Edgar's sister Isabella, since she is the only heir to Thrush Manor. Heathcliff's purpose was to occupy the entirety of this Thrushbridge estate. He is like a devil, even more terrifying than the devil. Cathy couldn't believe that the man she loved with her heart was actually destroying everything between the two people in a terrifying way. Heathcliff married Edgar's sister Isabella and eventually eloped with him. But Heathcliff had her imprisoned at Wuthering Heights and tortured her to vent his intense grievances. At that time, Cathy was ill, and she was still pregnant with Edgar's child.

Cathy was mad, calling out Heathcliff's name in a chaotic manner, constantly recalling the wonderful past of the two of them, and she still longed for the past in her heart. She climbed up from the bed to the window, opened the window with a pair of weak hands, she wanted to feel the wind blowing from the prairie again, she wanted to return to Wuthering Heights... She saw her in Wuthering Heights In the house, there is still a candlestick on the windowsill, and the firelight is still swaying in the wind. In fact, in the place she was looking at, she couldn't see these at all. There were only gloomy dark clouds in the distance, and lightning flashed bright lights in the dark, as if it meant something, making people ignorant.

That night, Cathy gave birth to Edgar's daughter, Catherine Jr. Since then, she has fallen completely ill on the bed. She knew that Heathcliff was here to kill her this time! She still hopes that Heathcliff can quickly appear in front of her now and kill her!

Heathcliff, showing up at the end of Cathy's life. Cathy broke Heathcliff's heart in the past. He knew that not even God or Satan could separate them. It was her, it was Cathy, it was her and her thoughts that separated them. Heathcliff didn't hurt Cathy's heart, it was Cathy that hurt it. In hurting it, it also hurt Heathcliff's heart. Cathy hated him for throwing her away, but now Cathy forgave him for abandoning her, and at the same time also contained her own harm to Heathcliff. But "I can forgive whoever hurts me, but what about whoever hurts you? How can I forgive!" How could Heathcliff forgive himself? If a person cannot forgive himself, how can he better forgive others? He couldn't understand... Cathy is dead! She said it was Heathcliff who killed her!

Heathcliff broke into the manor in the rainy night, holding Cathy's body and crying. He was also deeply in love with Cathy. He prayed for blessings, more like a curse, she hoped that Cathy would wake up in pain, and he hoped that Cathy would sleep forever while he was alive. He hoped that Cathy could turn into a demon and tear him apart in any way. Heathcliff believed that there were ghosts in the world, he did not want to be alone in this world, and he hoped that Cathy would not leave him alone in this purgatory.

Isabella escaped from the chaos and came to the outskirts of London, and soon gave birth to a boy named Lynton Heathcliff. Hindley died of alcoholism less than half a year after Katherine's death, and his son Hareton fell into Heathcliff's hands, and Heathcliff took further revenge on the child. Torment Hareton the same way Hindley treated himself.

Twelve years later, when Isabella died of illness, Heathcliff took back his son, but he hated his weakness and squeamishness. Heathcliff took advantage of Edgar's critical illness to lure little Catherine to Wuthering Heights with his son Linton, where he locked her up and forced her to marry his son. Because Catherine is the heir to Thrushcross Heights, so Heathcliff can take Thrushcross Heights as his own. A few days later, Edgar died, and Heathcliff became the owner of Thrush Grange. His son, Linton, died quietly shortly after his marriage. Only himself, and Hareton and Katherine.

In the following days, Catherine fought with Heathcliff everywhere, and even instigated the feelings between Hareton and Heathcliff. In fact, Heathcliff should have discovered long ago that Catherine and her mother, Cathy, are too similar. Although Hareton is deprived of the right to education and lacks the warmth of the world, he is honest and faithful. Catherine fell in love with him. This angered Heathcliff, who was determined to break up the lovers. However, when he observed them carefully, the scene of the old Cathy and his love came to his eyes.

It is also coming to an end with the arrival of a strange tenant. On that stormy night, when Katherine brought the rented house into her mother's room, which had been dusty for years, it all came to an end. That night, the tenants were full of curiosity about the house, and had long forgotten Catherine's reminder not to put the candlesticks by the windows. The wind is roaring outside the window, and the candlelight on the windowsill evokes memories and illuminates hope.

In the middle of the night, everyone was awakened by the clamor of the tenant. Heathcliff knew that it was Cathy, who was waiting for him. He Heathcliff walked into the room alone, and saw Cathy as a child, in a pure white wedding dress, she pushed open the door to the window, and the shrewd light illuminated everything. Cathy stretched out his hand, Heathcliff also stretched out his hand, and the two returned to the familiar place, hugging and kissing each other... He saw Catherine in the illusion, he called Catherine's name, and passed away.

And the new generation has gained liberation and freedom, rushing to the distance that belongs to them.

Wuthering Heights quotes

  • Cathy Linton: My love for Linton is like the foliage in the woods: time will change it, I'm well aware, as winter changes the trees. My love for Heathcliff is the eternal rock beneath: a source of little visible delight, but necessary. Nelly, I AM Heathcliff!

  • Cathy Linton: If I've done wrong I'm dying for it.
