Before watching this film, I have read the relevant background knowledge and surrounding (a recorded interview after Sabzian). Sabzian belongs to the ordinary class of Iran and has received basic education. His biggest characteristic is that he is obsessed with movies. Let’s talk about Iran again. Iranian films have sprung up. In fact, they give hope to confused young people. The international famous directors will have a demonstration effect. Young people in Iran, who are a bit literate and want to stand out, will have a director dream. Like young Americans wanting to be rock singers. Sabzian is also one of them, the movie gave him comfort, he was addicted to it, this is an essence of the movie, let us go from reality to fantasy. Sabzian's mistake can therefore be an effect of the film on the viewer.
The film as a commodity, especially this film, is the reproduction and production of reality, both the reality in which existence takes place (romance of a motorcycle, the ambiguity of sound and picture; detailed courtroom records, deliberately exposed microphones) and a reflection of events. The signifier and the signified (the same parties act, restore the story). All the boundaries are ambiguous and ambiguous, you can't define, is counterfeit (counterfeit) and production (production). The film keeps telling us that it is a simulacrum. This seems to be the essence of cinema as a commodity, and the simulacrum is here its own reality. Sab consumes movies, and fictionalizes himself as a movie producer (pretending to be a movie director), while also producing movies (which he starred in). During these 97 minutes, Abbas kept repeating, crossing and crossing, causing the viewer to be driven out of the virtual reality of the film and pulled back again and again. But the greatness of Abbas is that he is talking about the essence of cinema, and the essence of Sab's life, or the essence of all audiences and filmmakers.
We consume movies, movies are simulacra of reality, we imitate this simulacrum, become this simulacrum, and also produce this simulacrum. Our life is the same, its simulacrum is the real. Abbas saved Sab, 30 years later, this film still inspires me to think about social networks, virtual games, live streaming, etc.
