Psycho + Blind Mountain + Texas Chainsaw Massacre = Cross

Actually, I've always wanted to write about Calvaire, a Belgian film, but because it was so weird, I watched it several times and couldn't figure out what it was trying to convey.

The hero of this film is played by Laurent Luca, and his friends who often make French films will not be unfamiliar with him. He plays Mark, an indie singer who wanders the Belgian countryside alone in his RV, singing outdated old songs to the elderly. At the beginning of the film, Mark was performing in a nursing home. His handsomeness and talent made an old lady fascinated. After the performance, she couldn't help but break into his dressing room to confess and put his hand between her legs. . Seeing that Mark was unresponsive, the old lady fled in shame.

Before leaving, the female dean of the nursing home sent Mark off with enthusiasm, and asked him to return as soon as possible to continue the performance. She hugged Mark in desperation, and suddenly a gloomy and jealous old lady appeared behind the curtain upstairs. The face, Mark saw her, shuddered in his heart, and hurriedly drove away.

It rained heavily, the car stalled, and Mark was stranded in a deserted place. A little freak suddenly appeared calling "Bella" (beauty in French), saying he was looking for the lost dog. Mark asked him to lead him to the inn, and the two came to the inn run by old man Battle. Battle said that Mark's car could be repaired, and he made food for Mark to eat. During the dinner, Battelle said that he was a comedian and won trophies, but after his wife Gloria left, he lost all his talents. Battle also invited Mark to sing a love song, and the atmosphere suddenly became unusual.

Mark woke up the next morning to find Battelle smashing his RV with an iron rod. Mark ran to the theory and was knocked down by him. Battle dragged Mark into the room, stripped him of his clothes, put on a dress for him, and gave him a ghost shave! The film played here, quite the meaning of Hitchcock's "Psycho".

In this way, Mark became the slave of the strange old man, and even called him his wife's name - Gloria. With Christmas approaching, Bartle tied Mark to the forest to cut down trees. Mark escaped, but was unsuccessful. He was sent back by the little freak who was looking for the dog before. Seeing this, it's a bit like the male version of "Blind Mountain" again.

The weird thing didn't end. Battelle went to the bar in the village to show off, saying that he had found his love Gloria, and the men in the bar suddenly became manic. It turns out that there is no woman in this village, and they usually use livestock to vent! Another "respected" old man in the bar, Robert, also loves Gloria. He can't let it go. After Battle left, he organized a group of people to take Gloria back! The film played here is like "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" again.

Battelle's short-lived dream was shattered. He and the little freak were both shot to death, and Mark fled in the chaos. Robert was still in hot pursuit, and the two staggered forward in the snow. Seeing that he was about to catch up, Robert fell into the snow pit, and Mark watched him slowly sink into death. Before dying, Robert asked: Gloria, why did you come back? Have you ever loved me? ? !

Mark, disguised as a woman, with a yin-yang head and a bruised face, replied: I love you.

Isn't God amazing? No surprise! The story is over, Wardfarck!

According to director Fabrice du Welz, there are actually only two characters in the film - Mark and Battle, and the rest of the film is a variation of Battle's character. Note that everyone in the film is desperate to get close to Mark, like crazy Battelle. I still don't understand what he said.

In addition to the paradoxical plot, there is actually a bit of dark humor in the film, so it makes people want to watch it again. By the way, Belgium is not a big country and there are not many movies, but it has produced several top weird movies, such as "A Man and His Pig", "Lucker" and so on.
