The novel has some beautiful sentences, but as a movie script, it is really not as good as Feng Menglong's short story.
First, the plot is too simple, and everyone's ending can be guessed from the beginning, such as the relationship between Shimike and his uncle.
Second, it's too illogical. Nicholas is loved by the troupe because of his appearance. From an annual salary of £5 to £1 a week, it has become an annual salary of £120 at the rich brother's place. If he was so lovable, how could he accept £5 a year in the first place?
Third, the story of the gentleman/jazz. If you have read the British romance novels of the same period, the British gentlemen and nobles still attach great importance to the assets of their marriage partners, and of course all treat the Nybek brothers and sisters special.
Fourth, the principal and his wife should be considered supporting roles. The reason for such a bad situation does not need to be introduced. Uncle as the protagonist, why is it so bad, shouldn't it be portrayed?
