After reading it, it took me a day to write a review.
As a documentary, is it documentary enough? (thinks...) Pretty much. The first three episodes about Epstein's crimes against women are almost documentary enough. The sheer number of victims, the brutality of the mind control and physical harm done to the victims, the film shows.
Also impressed are the chief of the Palm Beach Police Department, private investigators, and the victim's defense lawyer, who insisted on justice and risked their lives to help the victim find justice.
So far, the film is still trying its best to dig out the reality under the entanglement, so that we will not be kept in the dark, let the victims receive due attention, and focus on giving the audience an account of the facts.
But, there is but, but at the beginning of the fourth episode, under the #Metoo movement, how did the investigation into Epstein start and how it was carried out, apart from the wise and upright judge this time, which other departments are presiding over the investigation operation, and the time of these departments Who is in charge, none of these attempt to answer. In the end, Epstein's strange death was shied away from the small basis of poor prison management. In addition, the second restart of the investigation found that hundreds of emails that violated common sense negotiated for the first time a hasty and painless sentence for Epstein. It's the boss, whoever instructed it, all of them have been taken in one stroke. The intention is unknown.
So I changed five stars to four stars.
Those four stars, give it a partial, albeit partial, revelation of the crime. Give it respect for the victim, because revealing is part of all that respect and can only be part of it. Justice has not come fully. Finally, give it a warning to the world.
It reminds us how "genius" like Epstein, the criminal demon, can climb to the top step by step before people's eyes. He's evil on Wall Street, he fakes resumes, he grabs people's pigtails. Little by little evil deeds contributed to the last big villain who despised life and human dignity. Because of watching this documentary, I went to Zhihu and stepped on a person who asked about forging documents.
It reminds us how helpless minors can sometimes be when faced with adults. Injuries to minors often accompany them throughout their lives, so punishment of crimes against minors should never be lenient.
It also reminds us that even as adults, faced with the temptations and traps set by people more mature and sophisticated than ourselves, we often wake up suddenly but too late.
"My family has a large manor, do you want to take a look?
How about a part-time job for my family, I pay more.
I have a private island, let's go there by private jet.
Introduce a friend to you, he is a great character.
Your dream deserves to be realized, I have a crush on you! Let me sponsor your dream.
...
These are all tricks Epstein played. In reality, Epstein is far more than just those who play these tricks. This is horrible.
At least part of the value of this film is to alert and defend the world, to call for the protection of women, and to support the voice of women who have been victimized. As for exposing the dark trader, further progress is required.
