Sambasis asked Jonah from Brazzaville "What's your name?"
"My name is Jonah, just like in the Bible." "My name is samba, just like the Brazilian national dance."
Olivier Nakash's "Samba" (also translated "Paris Meets Love" 2014) makes a very distressing refugee topic really amusing. It is reminiscent of "Green Card Love" more than 20 years ago, but it is not so tall, but the same fun.
Sambasis is from Dakar, Senegal, where the rally ends. Samba's father died in a construction accident, and Samba, who dropped out of school, left his mother and sister and smuggled to Paris to join his uncle. I have been here for 10 years and have been working in a restaurant. I was going to be promoted to a restaurant food buyer, but I was arrested because I naively went to the Immigration Bureau to apply for legal residence. The reason is that his previous application for residency has long been rejected, but he never received that letter.
Samba, who was imprisoned, was in the same room as Jonah, and the two became sympathetic friends. Alice, played by Charlotte Gainsbourg, as a volunteer advocating for the rights of refugees, followed a female colleague to Samba's place of detention and asked about the situation. When Samba and Alice were alone, they seemed to have found some kind of rippling feeling, but it was not clear. Alice helps him find his uncle, who works in the restaurant, and gets some certificates from Samba. Uncle Ramona said my nephew was a good man. He asked Alice to bring two Maronkas to Samba, but Alice ate it.
During the hearing, Samba's performance was unsatisfactory, and he complained that the clothes did not bring him good luck. But soon after he was released, he couldn't believe it, can I go. The policewoman smiled and said, yes, but you are still an illegal immigrant and you must leave immediately. He pointed to the passenger plane in front and said with a smile, "Okay, I'll take this plane and leave." Of course, he won't leave, he finally came out. What's more, he also has the mission to find his girlfriend for the inmate Jonah.
When Jonah was working on a Spanish farm, he was tracked down by the Immigration Bureau and escaped. A girl named Gosias rescued him. Later, she also came to Paris to work in a beauty salon. After several turnarounds, Samba found her. The two were lonely and unbearable. They even slept all night. This made Samba very regretful and guilty. What kind of thing is a friend doing. When Jonah called, he always said he couldn't find her, so Jonah stomped his feet in anger.
Although Alice and his uncle both advised him to be careful and keep a low profile and not cause trouble, he still had to find a job. At the Volunteer Center, Alice put down what she was doing, made an excuse to change with her colleagues, and finally faced Samba face to face, but was scolded by Samba. This made her unable to bear it, and roared together. The inexplicable scolding stopped, and Samba hugged her emotionally and said, "I'm sorry, you have done so much for me, thank you for everything you have done for me". The hug didn't make Alice feel strange about this stout man, but a deeper body odor, or the expectation of each other landing on the shore after wandering for too long.
Samba finally found a job as a night mall security guard, but was beaten for no reason. For fear of being caught by the police, he had to find Alice. Alice helped him clean the wound. Samba said that since entering the shelter, I was at a low point in my life because of a woman... Alice went on to say "I know, but I'm not sure yet." Unexpectedly, the illiterate Samba said, no, I mean Jonah's girlfriend, and I would do such a thing.
This made Alice very embarrassed. Fortunately, Samba changed his mind and said I like you too, really. Alice finally revealed her heart. She said that she used to work in a manpower company and worked all day long. She was exhausted. It drove me crazy, smashed a male supervisor with my phone, and ripped his hair, followed by a period of therapy, listening to music, painting watercolors, and volunteering.
"Then if you are volunteering now, is it part of the treatment?" She nodded and said, so to speak. Samba asked her what her hobbies were, and she jokingly said "sex addiction, when I indulge myself, I swallow my bones." "Really". This is reminiscent of Charlotte Gainsbourg's previous role in "Sex Addiction", the girl who "runs at the end of the day" for sex.
Samba returned to his uncle's house early in the morning. The uncle blamed him for not paying attention to himself, and the two quarreled. Uncle said that you will not have good results with that depressed girl. This made Samba very angry. Made Samba immediately pack up and leave. The uncle felt that he had gone too far, so he insisted on keeping him and gave him his ID card, saying that although it did not look like it, it should not be a problem to find a hard-working job. Samba took his ID card slowly and said with a smile, "I didn't even know that you were born in 1956." Uncle said that if you find a good job, I can also find a woman to accompany in the future.
When Samba was looking for a job, he was hooked up by a seemingly cynical Wilson who claimed to be from Brazil. Wilson, who seems to be unruly, is actually a good-hearted, and he is also an illegal refugee. The two of them scrubbed the glass exterior walls of high-rise buildings together. Samba said he had acrophobia, but Wilson danced samba with the girls in the room while leaning out the glass.
During an immigration operation, Wilson took him on a risky climb up the stairs, which caused Samba's leg cramps. Fortunately, he was not caught. Samba smiled and asked him where the capital of Brazil was. Algiers. I think so too. Wilson finally told the truth. Actually, my name is Willid, and I'm from Ukraine. At the party with the volunteer center, they danced cheerfully and poured out their hearts together.
Uncle Ramona said that in Africa there is a mayfly creature that always jumps at the beacon, hoping that we will never become mayfly creatures. Granny Marcelle's expression was quite direct, loudly saying "fight the devil with love". Samba said I would like to have a house by the lake, everything there is. Alice says "accept addiction," a code word only Samba understands.
Alice told Samba that last night I slept until I woke up naturally without taking medicine, which was the first time I had in years. Samba is still drawn to the musky scent she sprays. With Willid's encouragement, Samba finally plucked up the courage to join Alice and give her a massage, which made her feel more comfortable than ever, but was disturbed by the burst water pipe. But they were drawn together by the "sex addiction" joke after all. The intersection of "traditional and non-traditional" that Samba told her made her understand.
Love is beautiful, but reality is rough. Samba is naturally displeased working on sorting in the smelly garbage dump. To make matters worse, Jo takes it out and finds Samba. He was supposed to go to Alice's date. Jonah's attitude at the beginning seemed to be out of the ordinary, saying that he had obtained political refugee status and showed off his residence permit. Afraid that Samba would be cold, he took off his jacket and put it on the sauna. But the good times didn't last long, Jonah's true shape was revealed, and he was beaten violently, and it was useless to let him explain.
Not only did Samba fail on a date, but he was also driven to nowhere by Jonah's relentless pursuit. Just at this moment, the police came, and Samba was even more terrified. He jumped to the side of the boat in the river desperately. Unexpectedly, Jonah would not let him go. He jumped down like a ghost and held him tightly. People fell into the river together. Feeling wrong, Alice came to Uncle Samba. The old man told him that the police had come and said that Samba's body was found on the canal.
Before she could catch her breath after falling into the ice cellar, Samba stood in front of them like a ghost. It was Jonah who died. Samba said he had to get out of the country quickly. He immediately packed his luggage. Ashley was so upset that she drove them to the airport in an uneasy mood. After the two hugged tightly, Ashley watched sadly as he walked away with his bag on his back. After getting in the car, she saw the coat he left and found Jonah's residence permit. She got out of the car and ran to Samba's bus.
Samba hesitated to look at the uncle beside him, who nodded. Samba quickly got out of the car. She said you can use this. He said I couldn't have it, and now I don't even remember my name. She said you deserve it and if you forget one day you shout your name and people will think you want to dance. At least, that put him out of the woods. In the end, of course everyone is happy.
Alice returned to her original unit and was promoted to the director of human resources. Her subordinates were all male generals. She smiled smugly, which seemed to make them all feel stunned, as if they were going to do something stupid next. The relaxed samba can freely enter and leave the racecourse, and no longer has to live in fear.
Paris meets love, although it is asymmetrical, at least we are happy to see this new life after the squeeze. Although it is impossible to achieve world harmony, at least the human beings in the same global village have the freedom to migrate, and every door should be opened for the good. This is one of the hallmarks of the evolution of human civilization. But it is undeniable that "terrorists" are hiding among these refugees.
The reality is naturally much harsher than the movie. Everything goes both ways. Cause and effect follow each other. In those days, the residents of the colony had to travel thousands of miles to the world of Huahua to strive for a better life. It was justifiable, but the successive terrorist attacks made all this complicated and more difficult. In view of this, such as "Paris Meets Love", it seems to be more and more distant.
