Captain Fabian Marcia seems to be a social animal. Of course, this is my very personal interpretation.
Mr. Ma Xia, the captain of the Royal Guard, is always working, from morning to night, from the palace to the brothel, from the ground to the underground, almost all of his roles are at work, and even falling in love ends up at work. It may be because of his stern appearance and poor verbal ability to report in writing, his immediate leader, Louis XIV, rarely praised him, but once there was a problem with his work, the king's anger would never fade away because of the smooth completion of his usual work. . Until the end of the first season, the hard-working Captain Ma Xia only took one leave, which was only due to a business injury (although his way of taking a leave was to play missing).
In popular terms, Fabien was almost a social animal of that era.
This realization made Fabian Masha's image suddenly warmer, and the more he thought about it, the more he felt that it was true.
p1. First impression
As the main character, Fabian's debut in the first episode is quite the momentum of Wang Xifeng's "not seeing him, first hearing his voice". The name "Fabian" first appeared in the mouths of the guards: "We don't know yet, Fabian has gone to deal with the threat." Then we see, in the muddy rainy night, Fabian brutally Killed several assassins. This act established his ruthless image, his lines and self-introduction:
My name is Fabien Marchel , my work protects the king. Welcome to Versailles.
Showing his stern side as Versailles, the sharp edge of Versailles' extravagant skirt will never condone any unscrupulous actions that compromise the safety and majesty of the king.
Fabian is cruel. He is the French version of Jinyiwei's commander. His work is secret and bloody, dark and unclean. This is also fully implied by the language of the lens. In the first episode, Fabien appears seven times, only two of which are not gray; one is when he reports to Louis XIV, but the subject of the picture is Louis rather than him, and the other is when the king speaks to the crowd about the future the ideal blueprint, and gestured with his eyes to tell him to follow the rebellious Montcourt, and the subject was not him.
Contrary to the bright side of Versailles, Fabian's home field: the intelligence agency and the interrogation room in the basement are all gray, just like the color scheme he wears, which gives people a great sense of depression. Every time he appears, he sees blood, and even the clips of the intelligence agencies with no ups and downs in the plot have bloody aunt cloths of the ladies hanging in the background.
This is Fabian's first impression in the play, a ruthless, strong executive, the captain of the security team, the head of the intelligence agency and a front-line agent.
p2. Social animal life
Unlike most of the other employees under Louis XIV, due to the special nature of his work, Captain Marcia has no fixed working hours. If there is, he is on standby 24 hours a day. Although Captain Ma Xia was not required to stay in the interrogation room all day or go out on patrol all day, it was not true that he was working 24 hours a day, but there was one thing he had to do, that is, he was always on call.
Nowadays, many leaders like to use WeChat to assign tasks in employees' personal time, and they also require employees to reply in seconds, which makes many social animals miserable. Captain Marcia's job, due to its special nature, has similar requirements. He must always be vigilant to prevent any obstacles to the safety of the king's personal and property (such as the robbed marble in the third episode and the construction of Versailles). In the event of a crisis Approaching, you must act quickly (such as the first episode), which seems no different from modern people being asked to "return" information in seconds. However, since this is an inevitable requirement to protect the king's comprehensiveness, unlike the complaints of modern staff, Captain Masha has no complaints about this kind of requirement in his own job.
The main scope of work that Fabian is responsible for is to maintain the internal security of Versailles, master the internal intelligence of Versailles, protect the personal and property safety of the king and related personnel, and maintain the law and order of the royal road. In addition, as a front-line agent, Fabien has implemented many tasks for himself, ranging from receiving the younger brother of the African prince, to assassinating the maid who accidentally saw a baby that should not have been seen, from the hall to the kitchen, Fabien is a brick, and he moves wherever he can (although not all of them are right).
It stands to reason that just maintaining the internal order of Versailles and undertaking irregular personal tasks is already very heavy work, but after the third episode of Montcourt and others robbed the goods shipped to Versailles via the Royal Road, strict leadership Louis XIV asked Captain Marcia to strengthen the management of the Royal Road. Captain Marcia promised Louis XIV that he would step up his patrols, but then the king's trusted colleague, Bontang, privately told him that due to preparations for the battle, he was running out of manpower, "I'll handle the road." - Bontang said. However, after the Parnet family was assassinated on the Royal Road, Louis XIV's anger slanted down, and he issued a fire warning after expressing his disappointment with Captain Marcia in public. In this way, Fabien is disguised as a scapegoat, because in fact, Bang Dang is also going to be punished for this matter (and the private conversation between the two later also revealed that there was something wrong with Bang Dang's plan, this task walked around and came back). Moreover, now that the king has issued an ultimatum to him, Fabien has to work harder than usual to make up for it, in other words, his workload has increased.
And this obviously leads to extra-long working hours. Fabian may work much shorter hours if someone shifts or divides the work with Fabian. But unfortunately, due to the confidential nature of the work, of course, the fewer people who know the insider the better, so Fabian is responsible for all the work alone, which also causes him to be busy for the next time after he is busy. On the basis of ensuring work efficiency, we will continue to extend working hours, strive to achieve the highest utilization rate of human resources, and absolute 007 (zero to zero, seven days a week) working system.
Every day in Versailles, the game of cards, dinners, banquets, and performances, for Fabian, the key is not to participate in them, but to observe secretly as a bystander, carefully check whether there are any security threats. While everyone is enjoying themselves, they have to strictly perform their duties, which makes it seem that the captain of the guard who does everything by himself has no leisure time of his own. And indeed, Captain Ma Xia seems to be different from his colleagues who are rich in entertainment activities. He is not very good at having fun, and in this court with strict etiquette, he is not proficient in mastering the monarchy that the courtiers should have. Bang Dang is responsible for him in the second episode. Without etiquette, Louis XIV also said that he would not cater to himself, and in Versailles, where social and entertainment are inseparable, this is very nerve-racking. Compared with other people, Fabien, who came from the bottom working people, really has no hedonistic spirit, and looks a little withdrawn against the background of a social master. Even in his short private time, he only reads works related to work (see 6 for details). set), did not go to the poker table or dance floor for fun. Work is like a fitted garment, draped over him all the time.
Throughout the ten episodes of the complete works, it is not considered basic work. There are about six incidents that Captain Fabian Masha directly or indirectly participated in and solved, and each of them is related to the safety of the royal family. From beginning to end, Captain Maxia They are all struggling in the front line of work, and there is no negative feeling of sabotage. Although there are occasional mistakes, most of the tasks can be successfully completed. This is probably the ideal employee of the modern business owner.
p3. The love of social animals
Remarks such as "the high rate of singleness among young people in big cities is due to high work pressure" can often be seen in newspapers or WeChat public accounts, which probably explains why Captain Masha's left ring finger is empty - but his right wear.
Born for work, social animals do not need love, and Fabian, who has been working, is a practitioner of this theory. He was still reading "a book on espionage during the Roman Empire" until Madame Clermont took the initiative to seduce him in episode six. Maybe this is a straight male social animal.
I don't know Mrs. Clermont's feelings for Fabien, but I believe that Fabien is in love with Mrs. Clermont, otherwise he wouldn't show that sad expression like a dark river when he executed her. And from Fabien's point of view, Madame Clermont must be lovable. Fabian has been living in the interpersonal circle of men except for female doctors, and neither has a crush on anyone nor is loved by anyone (this is the true portrayal of the majority of social animals). In this case, a dame with a strong charm broke into his life, expressing her love for him passionately in a very bold way (slap and lick really scared me at the time, Clermont Madam is really a daring artist and a wild way), who wouldn't be tempted? There is no need to spend a lot of time and energy to pursue and please, and directly enter the sweet love link. Isn't this the love that all social animals who yearn for love need?
"I've never seen a woman like you."
"As long as I see you, I don't want anything else."
At least when he said these two sentences, Fabian Masha's heart was full of romance and passion.
But unfortunately, Madame Clermont approached the captain of the Royal Guard with impure motives, so Fabian's love was actually just a dream. He was poisoned by Mrs. Clermont, and the poor old female assistant was killed by Mrs. Clermont. The evidence is overwhelming, and Mrs. Clermont's seduction technique is hard to argue, and in the end, she can only plead guilty to the law (I don't think Mrs. Clermont's behavior is a revolution. In the big environment, her behavior should be rebel, of course, it's just personal understanding. ).
There is a close-up shot of Fabien's face when he says "kneel down" to Madame Clermont for the second time. In the shot, Fabien Marcia's eyes are dodging and a little shaken.
"Look at me, what do you see?" If Fabien had never loved Madame Clermont, he would never have asked such a question in such a soft tone.
Madame Clermont replied, "I see... I see loneliness, I see fear, and I see... despair, remorse."
"There is still responsibility" Fabian's eyes were firm again.
This sentence completely obliterated any possibility for them, and brought an end to this dreamlike relationship, which was mainly devoted to Fabian.
Fabien is probably one of the most peach-free characters in the whole play. He originally thought that he could harvest love in Versailles, but it turned out to be a failure, and he paid a terrible price for it. To put it bluntly, Mrs. Clermont will throw her arms in her arms because Fabian is the captain of the guard, and the purpose is to interfere with the captain's fair law enforcement. It seems that for Captain Maxia, even things such as the object of conversation or appointment should be linked to the work, otherwise it is likely to disrupt the normal development of the work.
P4. Compressive Ability
In the fast-paced modern society, the ability to withstand pressure is often an important benchmark for us to examine a person's comprehensive quality. Although the court of Versailles bathed in the majesty of the sun king is not a competitive industrial society, the pressure is definitely not small.
Mr. Ma Xia's work is not something that people with average psychological capacity can do, and his complex workplace relationship also requires his heart to be as resilient as rubber, as indestructible as steel, and always rational like a mirror . Although he was also afraid, thinking that when people died, they would see the face of the enemy, but he did not have a demon in his heart because of this.
Compared with Louis XIV's fear of "wearing a crown, he must bear the weight", Wang's brother was caught in a love-hate entanglement with his brother and his wife, and Madame Clermont licked her blood and had to stand in Versailles (after she said 'revolution'. Before, I always thought that she just wanted to hang out in Versailles), or the grief of the king's mistress who insisted on escaping the door, Captain Fabian Marchia's survival pressure is very simple, although he is engaged in extremely dangerous work, but All stress boils down to work stress. A person like Fabian can still report his work without changing his face after being held accountable by leaders in public, and he can still enforce the law rationally after discovering that his "lover" is actually a chaotic courtier. Not a big deal.
Fabien was an upright man, and Louis XIV complained that his uprightness was a weapon. While he may be lacking in observation, it also gives him other advantages. The straight-forward way of thinking does not cause too much thinking, and there are not so many gray areas in the mind, as he himself said: "I don't think about those questions (when asked to see if people are suffering and whether they are suffering in their hearts, he answered this) ."
When he was poisoned by his "lover" and found out that his identity was fake, Fabian just said: "I doubted my intuition before, but now I won't." The tone was flat. Because the eyes need to be detoxified, the upper half of his face is buried under the gauze, and the lower half of his face does not show too much emotion. Being poisoned by a woman who has slept with you several times is both a major mistake at work and a huge swing in your emotional life. But at the doctor's house, Fabian had obviously done his ideological work, and instead of having a psychological breakdown, he calmly accepted this reality and quickly started the next work.
If every senior in high school could be as hard-hearted as Fabien Marcia, then the memories of students' senior year life might not be so painful.
P5. At work
If there is no statistical error, Louis XIV praised Captain Marcia only once in all ten episodes of the first season, and it was a mediocre 'Very well' (episode 2), but repeatedly expressed his blunt praise for Marcia. Captain Xia was so dissatisfied that Ma Xia's colleague Bang Dang defended him: "It is undeniable that Captain Ma Xia does rely more on violence than on his brain, but I believe that he is a loyal and conscientious person... Without him, you would It's impossible to be alive today."
Although Captain Ma Xia was not so favored by the king, fortunately, there are colleagues who can distinguish right from wrong and reliable assistants. In such a good working environment, the complicated work is not so painful.
When the king was dying, a list of "the king's most trusted aides" appeared, including Philip, who was of the same blood as the king, the queen who was green with the king, and the king who was considered 'you are more than a king' by the king. Re-used ministers, and Fabian, captain of the guard hired to protect the king. From this point of view, although Louis XIV did not reward and encourage Fabien too much, Fabien was still one of the most trusted people in Versailles. Of course Fabien knew this, so even if the king was mad at him, he knew that the king couldn't really fire him, which made the job more confident.
It is said that Japanese writer Mariko Hayashi once worked as a company employee for a period of time, but resigned because he did not like the working atmosphere. Fabian Marcia doesn't show any special affection for his work. He doesn't confess his longing for the battlefield as affectionately as Philip. Although he admits that work can give him a sense of accomplishment, he is not like the tax collector who goes to the brothel. Being passive at work, he thinks that the employees of 996 in the big Internet factory today work every day, make life revolve around work, and make work the main theme of life.
It's really hard work, no matter how you look at it, it's a social animal.
