How did the heart beat a little less? What's the point of this missed jump? In that second, is the heart completely still, or just about to move?
The advert only has a melancholy photo of the hero Romain Duris, making it impossible to guess the plot. I thought that after watching it, the above doubts would at least dissipate a little, but the director Jacques Audiard made a completely different story.
※ ※ Warning: The following content includes the plot description of the movie. ※ ※
The main theme of the movie is gloomy. The music cultivation came from his mother, but after she died, he abandoned the keys; he went back to his father's old path: real estate speculation, buying and selling, and violently driving the tenants to repossess the building. In the film, he wanders between the two extremes. Of course, the piano has always been his choice, but it is not a matter of saying that you can stop when you stop. In addition, his father constantly has new "tasks" for him, and in the end he can't become a piano. player.
The first part of the story focuses on Tom's violent side, listening to electronic music with big headphones in his spare time. The other side of his dream of becoming a pianist was sparked by a chance encounter with his mother's performance manager.
He turned on the abandoned piano at home, and his emotions for music mixed with his thoughts about his mother made him face the keys, and it took him a long time to play the first note. But after that, he couldn't stop, the music was like a giant magnet attracting him. The male protagonist performed wonderfully. The whole film is close to his one-legged play. The expression on his face when he plays the piano connects the music and violence in his life, expressing an effort to pull the two sides of himself together.
He found a piano teacher to help him practice, hoping that he would be able to perform well enough that his mother's former manager could bring him under his wing. The teacher is a young woman from Vietnam who cannot communicate with Tom at all in French. When practicing, you can only rely on body language and simple English. The teacher taught him a lighter way of playing to defuse the stubbornness and violence in his piano sound.
In the middle of the film, the father and young girlfriend are inserted, and Tom and his friend's wife have an affair. These branches and leaves make the development of the story a bit scattered, but if you want to go deeper, you can't delete it. The former leads to the dialogue between the protagonist's father and son about their mother; the latter uses sexual entanglement to set off the seemingly inexistent emotional exchange between Tom and the piano teacher.
In the end, Tom failed to take the pianist exam, and his father was killed by his enemy.... When everyone thought that the song was over, it turned out that there was still a short segment two years later, but this was a bit superfluous. Of course, I understand that the director wants to explain the development of Tom and the piano teacher, but maybe, the open ending will allow me to make up my own ending that I like.
