It's actually quite touching

I did a presetnation about this movie last semester and
it was very suffering . I
might not like it very much at the beginning
, because the filming time was relatively early, the technique was not very mature, and it was even a bit clumsy in many places
. The "passionate" play may be the need of the theme. Personally, I think it is a bit blatant~
But the theme of the film is quite profound. Through the love tragedy of a pair of young lovers, it expresses the morality of the Victorian era, especially the sexual repression. A kind of questioning and condemnation....
a poem by Wordsworth is used throughout to reveal its theme and create a sentimental atmosphere ~
William Wordsworth's 1807 Ode, Intimations of Immortality from Reflections of Early Childhood

“Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendor in the grass, of glory in the flower
We will grieve not, but rather find
Strength in what remains behind.”

The background of the times is placed in the period of the American economic crisis. One side is the shattering of the collapsed American dream, and the other side is the demise of personal idealism and love. However, unlike "The Great Gatsby", which ends with nothingness after complete disillusionment, "End of the World" rebuilt a pragmatic hope on the ruins (after the passion disappears, life returns to dullness, and ideals give way to reality), "Though nothing can bring back the hour of slpendor in the grass, of glory in the flower, we will grieve not, rather find strength in what remains behind."

The title is taken from a poem by William Wordsworth, but the tone of the story is quite different from the poetic title. The hero and heroine from a conservative town in the south are under the pressure of feudal ethics (expressed as a strong Christian atmosphere) and their parents, and gradually fall into the mire of sexual repression, unable to extricate themselves. Coupled with the innocent feelings of boys and girls when the two fell in love, it is full of tragic meaning. . I originally thought it was a simple story of beating mandarin ducks with a stick. I didn't expect that the male protagonist would lose his bright future and return to the small town to become a farmer, while the female protagonist went crazy and was sent to a lunatic asylum until the end and barely recovered. , This outrageous story goes only because the puberty is not shot, so what should the mother-fetus single dogs feel. Judging from the story, Kazan is obviously opposed or even ridiculed to the conservative folk customs of the southern town. Not only did he join the male protagonist and sister as an outcast role to challenge directly, but also directly exposed the hypocritical guard of the male protagonist's father. The image of a Taoist priest (not allowing his son to fall in love normally, but taking him to prostitutes). Natalie Wood is beautiful, but her insane performance is far worse than Vivien Leigh in A Streetcar Named Desire
