American parents are short-lived, they are not just optimistic and cheerful

I watched "April Fragments" (2004 US) yesterday. The director is very clever. Using the American Thanksgiving Day as a small incision, it reflects the American family concept and the indifference between family relationships. It seems that he is also advocating the Chinese family concept to the old beauty. .
At the beginning of the story, on Thanksgiving - the white girl April and her boyfriend are busy in the rented room, preparing a sumptuous Thanksgiving dinner for the arrival of her parents and family. At this dinner, she will bring her new boyfriend, black Bobby introduced to the parents. In the meantime, the oven was broken, and April turned to the neighbors to borrow the oven to bake the turkey. He knocked on several doors, either not borrowing or not opening the door; or even opening the door, he also washed her. Among them, only a black couple and a Chinese resident were friendly . .
After all the hardships, the girl's meal was finally ready, but the parents who had already arrived downstairs saw Bobby, the black man who was fighting with others, and chose to turn around and leave. April jumped downstairs with heavy footsteps, and walked back upstairs, destroying all the ribbons and balloons arranged from the first floor to the upper floors. . .
But at the end of the story, the mother couldn't bear it, and the family still went back to her daughter's house to celebrate Thanksgiving with the Chinese family -- similar to the Chinese New Year. Fortunately, Mr. Scott from dell said before that the concept of American family has always been weak, and it is almost unimaginable that four generations live in the same house. At most, they will gather together on Thanksgiving.
The story is an irony to Americans' indifferent family concept. In fact, it is also a reminder to the "harmonious" belief that some Chinese families are constantly disintegrating. It is super warm to see the feeling of everyone getting together. . . . .
I also remembered that I accompanied the 80-year-old Mrs. Song to Changping Court to file a lawsuit during the day (incidentally interviewed). She was abandoned by her three daughters alone. She was "partnered" by her daughters and "sent" to Huilongguan Mental Hospital on the grounds of mental illness. The process is extremely complicated, and the result is still unclear. It is not possible to rule out whether the old lady is mentally ill or not, why her three daughters are like this! ! !
Shouldn't people be more kind to sick mothers? ? Now, the three of them don't give their mother a living allowance. Under the blue sky of Beijing, I don't know what to say. .
There are so many things, for the sake of careful planning, the manuscript cannot be completed for the time being, Khan......
In retrospect, the film also made a mockery of jank food (junk food), which is very interesting. . A rare American director with humanistic concern, huh

  • Bobby: You didn't even know my mother and I pity you for that.

  • Bobby: She had this moment of unbelievable strength 'cause she had love.

Latrell: [picks a piece of lint off of the shoulder of Bobby's suit]

Bobby: Yeah. That's what love does.
