Angels and Demons and War and Peace

Most people who have watched this film are sad for Bruno's death.

His clear eyes, intense curiosity and innocence, he still maintained his pure heart when everyone around him was influenced by the Nazis. Let all people smile happily.

Like all kids of this age, Bruno loves to play, fears loneliness, and wants friends. Have a strong curiosity about things around. The naive ideal of having a child.

Most of the previous part of the film was telling us about Bruno's child's mind and the surroundings, I think. The director may be trying to make the audience more clearly able to understand why this tragedy will happen. Perhaps many people are surprised that another protagonist, the boy in striped pajamas, appears only halfway through the screening of the film.

Of course,
I think if it weren't for such a long narrative, for the last Bruno's death. There are many people who want to criticize, why does Bruno often go to the detention camp sister, nanny, mother not aware of it?

This is another reason for this tragedy.

If my sister was not so deeply influenced by the Nazis at that time, if my mother was not stimulated by the strong Nazis, if Bruno didn't enter the room at that time or entered the room later. . If...if...

everything can't go back. Bruno has disappeared in the big smoke cooking.

When the film ended, I remembered the sentence before the screening.

"Chuldhood is measured out by sonds and smells and sights, before the dark hours of reason grows"
-john betjeman's

subtitle translation is before the arrival of dark reason. It is the hearing, smell and sight that measure childhood.

There may be another explanation for this. Innocent childhood is due to hearing, smell and vision, and people become darker as they grow up rationally.

There seems to be a saying like a wizard in the impression that he will become evil when he grows up.

I think this is not unreasonable. The film borrowed this sentence to give us a clue to explore human nature. Isn't the contrast between Bruno and his father really a portrayal of angels and demons?

"Human nature" is really a very long topic. Just like what I think is the other theme of the film "War and Peace". People have been entangled in this issue for tens of thousands of years. Maybe Bruno's death can make people more kind.

Finally, I want to say. This is a tangled good film. . The director should hope that everyone is kind.

  • Bruno: [Pavel is nursing Bruno] Where's my mum?

Pavel - Jewish servant: She's out.

    Bruno: When will she back?

Pavel - Jewish servant: Soon, I expect, but don't worry.

Bruno: Will I have to go to hospital?

Pavel - Jewish servant: No, it's only a small cut.

    [Bruno moans in pain]

Pavel - Jewish servant: Oh, come on, it's not that bad. There, all better.

    Bruno: What's your name?

Pavel - Jewish servant: Pavel. Now you better sit still for a couple of minutes before you start walking on that again.

Bruno: It could be worse than it looks.

Pavel - Jewish servant: It isn't.

Bruno: How would you know? You're not a doctor!

Pavel - Jewish servant: Yes, I am.

Pavel - Jewish servant: No you're not. You peel potatoes.

Pavel - Jewish servant: I practiced as a doctor before I came here.

Bruno: You couldn't be much good if you had to practice.

Pavel - Jewish servant: Now what are you going to be when you grow up? I know! An explorer!

Bruno: How did you know that?

  • Herr Liszt: Yes Bruno?

Bruno: I don't understand, the Jew is down to this one man?

Herr Liszt: The Jew here means the entire Jewish race. If it was just this one man I'm sure something would be done about him.

Bruno: There is such thing as a nice Jew isn't there?

Herr Liszt: [Sarcastically] I think Bruno if you ever find a nice Jew, you'd be the best explorer in the world.
