This story has no ghosts, no monsters, and no terrible scenes, but it is indeed the scariest story I have seen recently.
This story takes place in the future world. The new government replaced the US government and established a new country-the Republic of Gilead. In this country, every male bishop has absolute power and regards the Bible as the supreme code and rule.
And women are completely reduced to men's appendages . Except for the bishop’s wife, all other healthy women were gathered together to receive so-called probation education to become maids, and then were assigned to each bishop’s home to complete their duties- giving birth .
Note that there is only childbirth. This means that on "fertilization day", the maid needs to lie under his wife and complete the fertilization with the bishop in the form of a tool .
The same is true during production. The wife pretended to give birth, and the maid lay under her to give birth to the child:
After this child is born, it will naturally not belong to the tool, but belong to the bishop and her wife, that is their child:
Is this scary enough? There are more terrible.
Because it is not only the oppression of women by men, but the oppression of women by women is the deadliest .
The bishop’s wives are above all women, but due to fertility problems they have to accept the maid to share their husbands, which makes their personalities distorted and violent:
The maid who was in charge of discipline and supervision of the maids even held power, and the maids would be electrocuted if they made mistakes:
Even the maid and the maid are monitoring each other, eyes are full of eyes everywhere. One who is not careful will be reported and taken away:
What if someone does not follow these rules? There is only one end: death
Women will be hanged, but men? Will be beaten to death by the maids:
Is it hard to imagine such a world? This is exactly the American drama I want to talk about today- "The Maid's Story"
This play is adapted from the work "The Handmaid" by the famous Canadian female writer Margaret Atwood. Obviously, this is a dystopian, unconventional science fiction story. The author of the novel writes the future with history, giving the whole seemingly absurd story a lot of realism that is extremely scary for careful consideration.
In fact, most of the new dramas this season are talking about women's rights (in fact, I would prefer to say that it is equal rights), the "enemy" we have talked about before, and "Famous Shu" that we have always wanted to talk about but are afraid of too many prohibited words. Wait...I believe some people will say: Oh, are there too many works of this kind of subject matter, is it unnecessary?
Is it really unnecessary?
Perhaps, in today's society, gender rights are not as unequal as they were in the early years, but what if we choose not to act at this time? It will probably end up like the absurd ending in the play.
When faced with unreasonable abuse from men:
When property rights are completely deprived and belong to a close male family member:
When declared that there is no right to work or read:
The women in the play did not choose to resist, or rather: they were completely powerless to resist, and it was this series of inability to resist and inaction that led to this completely irreparable result.
Of course, some people will say. The novel is just the imagination of the author. How could such a fantasy happen in real life.
But actually?
I remember seeing a picture a few years ago. It was two brightly dressed and unscrupulous women with their beautiful skin. Today, women in this country can only live by wearing a turban. Such a terrible change only took a short period of fifty years!
Looking back at ourselves, the proposal of " calling women to return to the family " a few years ago will not be discussed. What did the female ethics lecturer Ms. Ding who ran to campus recently talk about?
I don't post much, it's irritating to look at it.
In a short video of more than two hundred minutes, Ms. Ding , who looks like a mother in the story, has never been as good as a man by a woman. It is guilty for a woman to dress herself up . She just wants to seduce others. When a woman is raped, she blames herself for dressing loosely. It's time to do housework, and then when a woman encounters domestic violence, it's Cain to endure ... It can be described as a multi-faceted and full coverage of many fallacies.
These subtle and individual actions may seem to have no effect at the moment. But we must know that once the wheel of history starts to go backwards, it can no longer be stopped .
Hope that the story will never become a reality.
