good story, nice visual

I wasn't going to see this movie at all, but tonight I had an opportunity to see it on the big screen for free, so I thought, why not. :P It turned out to be quite a pleasant experience.

Aside from all the Jim Carrey's one-man-show performances(which I hated), the story was fresh and interesting. I've never read any of the books, and I had no idea what I was going into before the movie, so everything was a surprise for me. I loved the look of the movie, the costumes and the sets. The Bauedelaire house that was burnt down, Count Olaf's house, Aunt Josephine's house on top of the ocean, even the Curdled Cave were all a treat to look at .

The movie ended with a lot of unanswered questions. I guess it's because they were planning to do a sequel, I hate that! Darn, now I'm going to have to read the books to find out how everything turns out for the three orphans . :P

A Series of Unfortunate Events quotes

  • Count Olaf: [disguised as Sailor Sham, a peg-legged sailor] Sure, I get the good parking spots, but who could love a man with one leg and a face like a hen's arse?

  • The Detective: [to Violet] Little girl, the big cage door is open. No snake. Dead guy. You know what I'm thinking? I'm thinking, "Who woke me up at nine in the morning for this?"
