The Happening: When the bees die quietly...

Among Hollywood directors, he is still so maverick, writing, directing, and supervising movies that belong to him, especially his understanding and feelings of horror movies so thoroughly through his work. The Sixth Sense in 1999 was the first time he showed off. Although Lady in the Water (2006) was a bit disappointing, it still made people look forward to his new works. He has a kind of ability to gather the horror material needed to make the audience expect, suspicion, and finally enjoy it suddenly, and the horror atmosphere between the shots will always permeate from beginning to end.

In The Sixth Sense, Bruce Willis discovered that he was just a dead end in the film. All the audience's perceptions were cleaned up, so that people can only understand the horror created by the director on the basis of having to review the film. This is a classic moment in the history of horror movies, and since then, I always have countless expectations for each of his films. But obviously, perhaps it is M. Night Shyamalan who feels obligated to compete with his previous success in every subsequent film, so it is often seen that he has taken great pains but is always too much. Unbreakable (2000) is a fable about self-defense counterattacks and superheroes. It was finally intertwined by those little tricks until the end of the film, but it is undeniable that it is still a masterpiece. In Signs (2002), Mel Gibson played the role of a sad father. In the real-world corn circle incident, M. Night Shyamalan joined the "alien". The ending of the movie is, in the final analysis, an irony of faith. The Village (2004) envelops a mysterious atmosphere of terror in a closed Puritan world. People hide themselves deep in the woods, fearing the lies they weave, while the other endeavours attribute the horror to isolation and human hearts. M. Night Shyamalan has many good stories, but unfortunately he always tends to do too much interpretation in the movie.

The Happening is a bit like a combination of Signs and Steven Spielberg's War of the World (2005). In the movie, Elliot, Alma and Jess, who lost their parents, form a family. They escaped aimlessly in the wild, facing omnipresent but indescribable threats, but because of Elliot's professional instinct, it made him understand that this is natural Mysterious power. People have abused the earth, which in itself is a fatal injury to humans. But in fact, the source of the horror in the movie has been explained as early as in the biology class of the movie: this is currently not understood by humans. The natural world needs to adjust itself to the burden of being over-carrying. The question is only which method to use. People are obviously looking forward to the final explanation given by M. Night Shyamalan as usual, but unfortunately this time they failed to do so.

The story of The Happening is like a fable about contemporary environmental doctrine. M. Night Shyamalan also attaches his own special voice to the movie, which is very in place, serious and disturbing. As his latest movie, I can only say that he is still trying his best but he still has more than enough energy. The success of The Sixth Sense has become a burden for him. The beginning of The Happening is very shocking, compared with the ending is too shallow and weak, somewhat anticlimactic. The soundtrack of James Newton Howard in the movie is worthwhile. At the moments when the branches and leaves roar, there is only sound in front of the screen, that kind of deadly sound.

The night I watched the movie, I suddenly had a strange dream: on the construction site of a building, suddenly a cement pillar and glass above the gate fell down, killing several construction workers. Across the street, watching the tragedy happen...
