Gangster Squad

The postwar period is perhaps the most interesting period of history in America, so any film with this setting automatically catches my attention. Thus to me, the setting of Gangster Squad is intriguing and it doesn't disappoint with the music and sets. Mickey Cohen , arguably the most notorious character in LA history is played magnificently by Sean Penn. However the movie is built on a script that lacks emotional attachment. While it attempts to accomplish this with the death of squad members, it fails to establish a bond between the audience and the character to make the attempt successful. The editing, particularly at the beginning is also unnatural that takes credit away from the movie. At the end of the day, it's the story that should be the gist of any movie, and Gangster Squad needs a better one.

Several big names are both old-fashioned and fierce. It's not bad if you think about it. If this drama is directed by the old tough guy Eastwood, it must be more interesting. It's a pity that this plot is really fake. Five people went straight to Huanglong. After sacrificing two teammates, they killed the gang boss who had been in the arena for many years.

Sean Penn's acting skills are really good, but it's a pity that he has a battered face that is not suitable for playing the black boss; Stone's beautiful legs in a high-fork evening dress are undoubtedly revealed, but it is a pity that she does not have the frivolity and sensuality of the boss woman; the high commander is still handsome, but it is a pity Everything he does feels like he's trying to be handsome; the film has to be reminiscent of L.A. Confidential, but it's a pity to remind viewers how good that one is and how mediocre this one is.

Gangster Squad quotes

  • Mickey Cohen: Whores don't grow trees. They're like mustangs. You gotta catch 'em wild and break 'em before you train them to do tricks.

  • Mitch Racine: Mr. Cohen, I swear to God...

Mickey Cohen: You're talkin' to God, Mitch, so you might as well swear to me.
