An anti-war movie with concentrated contradictions

Compared with construction and destruction, it should be a meaningful and correct thing. But if this construction was taken captive, and the result of the construction is beneficial to the hostile forces, is it still the right thing?

Strictly abide by the rules, don't do it because of evil, and don't give in because of evil. It should be the right thing. But if the result is favorable to the hostile forces, is it still correct?

It should be the right thing to be committed to your duties, find a meaningful thing to do for your life, and gain a sense of accomplishment through labor. But if the fruits of this labor are beneficial to hostile forces, is that still the right thing?

These contradictory topics may not only exist during the war, but only in the context of the war can they become prominent. Because the war itself is the biggest contradiction! It's like the helmet in "Full Metal Jacket": it says Born to kill, and it also has a sign of peace.

You make me sick with your heronism.

This is just a game this war. You two of kind, crazy with courage, so what? How to die like a gentlement, how to die by the rules. The only important thing is how to live like a human being!

Madness! Madness!

8.9 points, the popular short comment said that I really don't understand people who wanted to fall asleep. In my opinion, this is just a commercial film with a longer time, it is a commercial film! Like "The Deer Hunter", "Apocalypse Now", "The Destruction of an Empire" I can understand falling asleep... Although the pace of this movie is a little slow, it can only mean that you are not suitable for watching movies.

Captain Nicholson's performance is too good, but the ending is a bit abrupt and the novel is better

The Bridge on the River Kwai quotes

  • Colonel Nicholson: It is quite understandable; it's a very natural reaction. But one day - in a week, a month, a year - on that day when, God willing, we all return to our homes again, you're going to feel very proud of what you have achieved here in the face of great adversity. What you have done should be, and I think will be, an example to all our countrymen, soldier and civilian alike. You have survived with honor - that, and more - here in the wilderness. You have turned defeat into victory. I congratulate you. Well done.

  • Colonel Nicholson: What have I done?
