The sadness that foreknowledge but can't stop

Of the four Oscar-nominated films I have watched, Munich saddled me the most.

Good Night and Good Luck, clean and firm, although the ending is not perfect, it is a little reunion after all. Brokeback Mountain, forbearing sadness, the ending is sad, but after all, we know that there is nothing wrong with the two people who are in love, and perhaps the tragedy will not repeat itself in the future. Crash, complicated and thought-provoking, sad, but also warm. But what is Munich is a desperate sadness.

In fact, what Munich is trying to say is not complicated. Simply put, it is questioning whether "violence for violence" is justified and effective. Anti said that Spielberg was balancing. Actually, I don’t think that he has been telling the whole story through Avner’s perspective. The reason why the black September members plan the Munich event is not flashed back in the movie because these things are not what Avner does. I knew it, and it was the last thing he doubted. But are these things important? Even if there is evidence to show Avner, faced with so much blood and death, can his nightmares be stopped, can his fear be eliminated, and can he and his wife find the joy of having sex in the past? The film is actually the influence exerted on Avner through the assassination operation, which allows us to see the cycle of hatred and violence, and what kind of tragic situation it will bring people into. One person is like this, many people are like this, and a nation may be like this. This is the case for Israelis and the same is true for Palestinians. However, the question is, what can be done otherwise? The hatred is deep, and the violent revenge has begun. At what point can they stop? What power can you use to stop them?

The film is unable to answer this question, and no one can do it. Therefore, the film does not ask in-depth questions. It only pushes the audience to lifelike blood and death, allowing the audience to experience together with Avner, to doubt and fear together.

But I may have watched too many medical-themed TVs, and the viewing effect on the computer has also weakened the visual impact. The bullet holes, blood, and residual limbs on the screen can no longer scare me. But I still feel sad, my sadness comes from another experience.

The filming method of the film is not complicated, it can even be said to be proficient and somewhat out of routine. In many cases, I can know how the plot will develop in the future. Usually, the lack of suspense makes the film boring, but Munich seems to be different. Looking at the members of the special agent team, their past work was so ordinary and ordinary, and then, I knew that they were going to become killers, kill people, and then be killed, or fall into the fear of being killed. Seeing the young people on both sides of the hostile enter the same room by accident, they were not friendly but still talked safely, and then I knew that they would definitely meet again, and it was definitely a life-and-death struggle. Watching the members of the Secret Service team questioning Avner one by one, I know that doubts herald their death... Seeing an irreversible tragic fate among ordinary people, this kind of foresight made me extremely sad.

In my case, the theme of the movie was brought to me with this kind of foreseeable and unstoppable sadness. I saw it. I killed an organizer. It may only be another tougher person who was assassinated to replace him. It may not be innocent, but one after another killing, the ensuing revenge, and the continuous expansion of the circle, it is impossible to guarantee that it will not bring a larger range of bloodshed. Yes, I have seen that the cycle of violence to violence never ends, and it can only be tragedy. However, under the current circumstances, this kind of tragedy seems to be unstoppable, as I know, the next shot, in the movie That person is about to die, but he understands that the ending has been predetermined, and as an audience, I can't save it at all.
