"Silent Hill": Three-dimensional World View

"Silent Hill" is adapted from the classic game "Silent Hill" (referred to as SH) by the Japanese company KONAMI. The plot mainly refers to the I-generation game. Unfortunately, I have not played this game, so in my opinion, the description of this film is quite inadequate, so that in the first half it basically reduced to "Dawn of the Living Dead" and "Shaun the Zombie". A third-rate horror movie that is bloody and disgusting. As the film progressed, especially after Rose entered the church, the story became more and more beautiful. The close-up shot of Cybil being burned to death was quite miserable, while the scene of "Alessa Rising in the Church" was filmed with magnificence and cult. , I was hooked, and more importantly, the philosophical meaning of the film gradually became apparent.

Compared with the plot, the subtlety of "Silent Hill" (or the game) lies in its three-dimensional world view, that is, when Rose steps into Silent Hill, she has already entered the world of fog and ruins. Isolated from the normal world (orange-yellow) where her husband lives, the world where Alessa exists, that is, the terrifying world after the invasion of darkness, is the inner world. Therefore, at the end of the film, when Rose returns home with Sharon (combined with Alessa), but cannot see her husband, and the husband who has been sleeping on the sofa cannot see Sharon, because the normal world and the watch world are parallel. The reason for not being able to intersect. In fact, this problem has already appeared at the beginning of the film. The husband (and the police officer) felt Rose's breath (perfume) in school but could not find her, which is a manifestation of the parallel world. Of course, because of the existence of love, perfume may really cross different dimensions, although this is obviously illogical. And Rose's ending can be understood as long dead, but just a ghost living in the surface world, because of Alessa.

Although the idea of the ternary worldview is wonderful, it is a pity that the director of "Silent Hill" is too wishful thinking and fails to explain the plot clearly, so that the audience who has not played SH will be confused. The spiritual connotations of the weakness and strength of maternal love, the toss and turns of hatred and vengeance, and pure evil beliefs have not been fully explained. As for the horrible zombie in the toilet, I never thought that he was punished because he had raped Alessa, and the hint was too obscure.
