It's the first musical that I have watched carefully. It doesn't talk about the three views, but just talks about my one-sided viewing experience.
I have seen clips in the movie before, and I personally prefer Velma. After watching the movie, the evaluation of Velma will be more pertinent, but he still likes Velma more than Roxie.
how to say? I don't just hate Roxie's cunning and versatility. In fact, what makes me the most unbearable is her attitude towards Amos.
Amos is the most normal person in the whole film. Although he is Roxie’s dog, he always trusts Roxie unconditionally (I see her face and I don’t doubt her), but Amos knows how to grasp the scale. Licking the dog.
When he knew that Roxie was having an affair with the furniture man, he refused to help Roxie commit the crime; when he knew that the child was not his own, he resolutely chose to divorce. On the other hand, Roxie, she became angry because Amos did not help herself; when everyone abandoned her, only Amos cared about her, but she didn't. Many such ungrateful moments are destined that I won't like Roxie too much.
Roxie really has a star dream, her background, her experience, and her love history are all too ordinary. She was not famous when she was a housewife. After being in jail, she became a "big star" because of her notoriety, but she was only briefly loved by Chicago, as Billy said:
But I can't say that I don't like this role at all. My love for Roxie lies in her slightly funny appearance when she pretends to be sexy on stage. The fiery heart under her innocent appearance really makes me fall in love!
If speaking from the perspective of the story, Roxie is the heroine; then I think from a comprehensive point of view, Velma is the well-deserved heroine.
The most intuitive difference between Velma and Roxie is that she is more proficient in sexy control. On the stage, she will always have a variety of styles. Even when interviewed by reporters after the murder, she is also a kind of lazy beauty; and when she is getting mad and no one cares, her light still cannot be covered. I still amazed me when I came to court.
Velma's character is also very attractive to me. She knows how to be flexible. When she first saw her, she found her sister and husband had an affair, so she “resolved” them regardless of their affection. Dare to love and hate, very decisive. And after killing two relatives with her own hands, she can rush to the nightclub for the last performance without any hassle. During the performance, she was still calm when she saw the police and did not make any mistakes. Even as a prisoner, she still retains the arrogance and nobility that belongs to her alone. And when she realizes that her situation is not as good as before, she can also lower her price and take the initiative to find Roxie in hopes of cooperation.
Every dance excerpt in the play can be called a classic. My favorite Top3 are "Cell Block Tango", "We Both Reached For The Gun" and "Nowadays".
◾️Cell Block Tango: The joy of five murdered husbands brings you a wonderful female prison tango.
I changed the original introduction of this excerpt. The introduction in the film is "six", but in fact there is a Hungarian sister who is framed as a murderer, and she is also the most tragic character in the film. The only person who was not guilty turned out to be the first person to be executed in the Cook County Women’s Prison, but the person who committed the crime turned into a star on the stage, both ironic and helpless.
I really like the sentence "I didn't do it, But if I'd done it, How could you tell me that I was wrong?"
Really, I feel that my three views are beginning to be distorted.
◽️We Both Reached For The Gun: A very classic puppet show with black humor!
This paragraph positively reflects Billy's strong defense ability. No wonder that none of his death row prisoners has been sentenced to death. This paragraph also vividly shows the characteristics of Billy's defense. During his defense, the entire court seemed to become a puppet theater, and he was the god who manipulated all of this. As the defendant, Roxie is just an ordinary puppet in the theater. She doesn't even need to speak, and she can become famous by relying on the exclusive lines Billy formulated for her.
The reason why Roxie and Velma are the protagonists is that they will not easily obey Billy's control. They have their own consciousness and will resist Billy's decisions that are not beneficial to them.
♠️Nowdays: A doomsday carnival brought by two prison flowers who regained their freedom!
This is the performance of the two heroines Roxie and Velma at the Chicago Grand Theater at the end of the movie. It is also the most absurd part of the whole film.
why?
"The only woman who was not guilty was sentenced to death, but the real murderer held a gun again under the applause and the light."
When the film’s last two heroines called the curtain, the audience’s cheers were ignored, and Roxie’s “Thank you! Believe us, we could not have done it without you!” was the biggest irony of the film.
In a nutshell, you must let go of your three views when watching this movie.
Finally, I just want to say: I love The Musicals forever!!!
