"Work" is important, but don't forget that you are human

Work, in many cases, is the continuation of campus life, but also the destruction.

The vast majority of enterprise units have continued the school's rules and regulations, fixed time, fixed location, were previously oppressed by performance, and now are oppressed by performance.

At the same time, the innocence of the campus was almost completely wiped out. The people around me are no longer classmates who also play together after class, but colleagues who go their separate ways after get off work, and it is becoming more and more difficult to make true friends. In the past, I hated a classmate to stay away, but later I hated a colleague, but I had to continue to communicate with him because of work.

Something like this was made into a movie in 1961. Emmano Olmi used the style of earthy records to create a work "Work" , which truly reflects the influence of boring work and life on ordinary people, as well as the social form in the period of rapid economic development in Italy.

After World War II, Italy became one of the six founding countries of the European Economic Community, and its economic growth rate was three times that before World War II, so it was called the "miracle south of the Alps" by the Western media.

If you only read the history books, you may only see the benefits. How much video data can really penetrate into the general public?

No one will give an ordinary person a full-scale in-depth follow-up interview, but someone can tell an ordinary person's story through the lens.

Emmanuel Olmi told the story of a newcomer in the workplace through "Job" . Unlike many films that criticize and satirize reality today, "Job" does not emphasize a strong "author's point of view", but only in chronological order. Lightly "shows" the whole story.

Now this kind of film is very rare, and the big reason is that there is no market at all. What affects our generation is more entertainment-oriented, dream-romantic works, and the purpose of going to the cinema is more to "escaping real life", using some unlikely things in reality to fill some kind of psychological compensation.

Rare is precious, and the more "romantic" technology influences contemporary films, the more important the existence of films like "The Job" is.

Up to now, "Work" should belong to the type that can make people fall asleep, but it reminds us that from the beginning, the most important function of film is not entertainment, but recording.

In 1895, the Lumière brothers made their first public screening of their documentary film, and the film truly entered the stage of history. At that time, the Lumière brothers were really not engaged in art. Maybe they were just "taking pictures" with a camera. Most of their works were "short videos" of a few minutes.

Then someone discovered that the invention of the Lumière brothers had huge business opportunities, and the cinema was born. Movie theaters quickly became a go-to place for recreation, but some filmmakers haven't forgotten the documentary function of movies.

In the first half of the 20th century, long shots and montages have always been "opposites". Directors who like long shots are loyal to the authenticity of the film, while directors who like montage want to "artificially retouch" the story.

In the 1960s, filmmakers such as Jean Mitri advocated that long shots and montages should be integrated with each other, and the art of film finally achieved a "grand unity". Therefore, subsequent realist films are no longer simply records, but films that can incorporate montages.

"Work" is such a "new realism film", shipped in simple language film, reduction (record) the most authentic in the world.

Today's movies have not lost the essence of film art, but it is easy for people to forget the essence of film art. The best movies of the past didn't have fancy special effects, so the audience could focus more on the most basic things, and these movies existed like classical music.

For example, in "Work" , the "author's point of view" (not strong does not mean no) is actually hidden in montages and lenses, and even in costumes and props.

The rapid development of the economy is always inseparable from the hard work of the people. At the beginning of the film, the job search is pressing, and the actor Domenico embarks on a job hunting journey in the first 3 minutes.

Wearing formal clothes for the first time is often unnatural. How to express Domenico's inner anxiety and immaturity?

An ill-fitting, oversized coat.

There is a shot where it can be noticed that his younger brother's cuffs are significantly shorter, and the two form a contrast, a social man and a student.

In the eyes of the parents, a big company with great prospects became very oppressive when it came to the director's camera.

When he first entered the interview venue, the picture suddenly "narrowed", and Domenico, who was standing in the middle of the camera, seemed to be overwhelmed.

The narrow promenade is the main scene of the big company, and the employees standing inside are like people who are "squeezed".

When it came to the leadership scene, Emmanuel Olmi used a clever angle to show the "smallness" of Domenico, a rookie in the workplace. This image was also used as a poster for the movie.

In the last two scenes, the hilarious dance was edited directly into the serious office. The two completely different scenes formed a sharp contrast. The employees seemed to return to work immediately after not having enough fun.

The two story lines of the film are integrated, one is the love line between Domenico and the heroine Antonietta.

The sun kept shining on Antonietta, she was like an angel.

It's just that after the heavy rain, the narrow promenade became the place where the two met. The relationship between the two also became more and more "narrow" with the background, and went to a silent ending.

The other is Domenico's situation in the workplace. He could only be a soy sauce at the beginning. After gradually integrating into the company, he finally had his own desk.

"Lightbulb" is the key metaphor.

"This light has been hurting my eyes for 20 years."

It used to be a lamp, now it is a computer.

The rookie Domenico didn't know yet that the lamp left by others might be "bad".

In 93 minutes, "Work" covers a lot of information. Even if you can't see the "hidden" camera language, many people should feel the same way about Domenico's experience.

Our era is also developing rapidly, and the rapid pace of social life forces everyone to work non-stop.

In the beginning, like Domenico, we were delighted to get a job, to have our own office space.

As everyone knows, no one tells you that this position can "poison" you while making you successful. The rules and regulations, fixed time, fixed place, are eroding human beings invisibly.

Of course, there is no gain if you don’t work hard. This is not to say that working in a big company is not good, but I just want to say that in such a big era environment, while working hard, don’t forget what you are.

If it is your ideal job, you should pay for it, but at the same time you should pay attention to your body, combine work and rest, and health is the capital of the revolution.

If it's not the job you want at all, then there's no need to stay in a position that "poisons" you, it's not worth it.

We are humans, not machines in social industry.

A very rigorous and objective attitude, showing young people who have just entered the society in the process of looking for a job. He met new friends and had a good impression of them, but unexpectedly the girl became close to other men after working in different buildings with him, and he had doubts about love. At work, the seat that belonged to him was seized by an old employee. He was cowardly and obedient and did not dare to say a word. He went to the company's New Year's dance, so restrained that he dared not put his eyes around... All this is the beginning of a new life for young people

It was the first time I watched this type of film, and I was drowsy at first because of lack of sleep, but later became more and more awake. The male protagonist's eyes are so impressive, whether it's the overwhelm and composure in the workplace, or the disappointment and loneliness at the dance, they all resonate with me who is still looking for a job. The way of telling the story is also very restrained, there is no such coincidence routine, the appearance and intersection of all people are just like in life, and they pass by. In the end there are only boring, cramped and repetitive gears that keep turning. I don't know why, but the song "Bali Island" always echoed in my mind at the end...and, after I came back and checked it out, I found out that the beautiful heroine turned out to be the director's wife! No wonder the male protagonist didn't catch up~~
