The film is extremely realistic and at the same time like an allegory, a wake-up call to the facts of Italy today. The hero, Marcello, runs a pet dog care shop that specializes in grooming and grooming animals. The opening scene of the film is that he faces a ferocious and aggressive big dog, and tame him a little with skillful love. Marcello is thin, working and living in a dilapidated shop surrounded by ferocious or cute dogs, big and small. In the poor neighborhood of this seaside city, he, like many people, secretly does small business dealings in drugs. He loved his daughter dearly and was loved by everyone in the neighborhood. However, the peaceful life was soon turned upside down by Simoncino, who was released from prison. The latter are strong, rude, and drug dependent. Marcello, who was forced into the criminal world of Simonzino, did reluctant things under the pressure of the fierce and inviolable Simonzino. Because of fear, and in order to earn money to realize his daughter's vacation dream, he endured it again and again...until the humble and cowardly he finally couldn't bear it, and under the guidance of the anger in his heart, he walked step by step toward bloody revenge. The film has an engaging story, but the characters are not distracted by the story. No matter the cowardly, timid and sympathetic good Marcheno, or the tall and formidable Simonzino, they all seem to be real people standing in front of them. The various relationships portrayed are intriguing. Marcello's relationship with the thug Simonzino, who changed his life, is full of paradoxes. On the one hand, he is full of admiration for this powerful friend, but on the other hand, he is extremely afraid. More to fear than actual violence on display is psychological violence: in the face of powerful power-makers, people, like most people living in a castle or country, are incomparable to fear and hatred. How can a man whose instinct is not violent, be forced to take the road of bloody revenge step by step in such an environment? When he did all this, the life ahead could only get more lost. At the end of the film, the male protagonist is sitting on the stone steps on the edge of the beach, his eyes are blank and touching. The relationship between man and dog is also full of meaning. Lonely Marcheno lives with the dogs and is full of love. And these animals, under the care of their owners, are the only happy group in the film. They are like witnesses who have witnessed the behavior of human animals and accompanied the owner Macheno to experience everything around them. The setting of these dogs gives the story a mysterious atmosphere and is full of satire. The protagonist and the environment surrounding him are just like the political and social situation in Italy today. However, the director did not deliberately show political performance, and human nature is the theme of his film. Calm and unpretentious shots without any dazzling tricks , but it is extremely detailed and precise, presenting a world of apocalyptic depression, telling the story and characters deep into the audience's mind. "The Kennel" is a powerful genre author's film, in which the starring Marcello Fonte's soul-penetrating performance makes the latter the best actor.
