How naive and how cruel

The tone of the film is slightly depressing at the beginning, which is disturbing. The director only presents the cruelty of that era one by one through the dialogue between the two children and the living environment. How innocent is the child's world, and how cruel and conscientious what is happening in reality is. The whole film is not so bloody and brutal, but you clearly know that it is purgatory on earth. It is a paradoxical desolation to expose all this from a child's perspective.

The ending was unexpected, and I wonder if the father regretted it a little bit. However, more than one family is broken, and the wrong decision is a disaster for the people, as in any country.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas quotes

  • Herr Liszt: Yes Bruno?

Bruno: I don't understand, the Jew is down to this one man?

Herr Liszt: The Jew here means the entire Jewish race. If it was just this one man I'm sure something would be done about him.

Bruno: There is such thing as a nice Jew isn't there?

Herr Liszt: [Sarcastically] I think Bruno if you ever find a nice Jew, you'd be the best explorer in the world.

  • Father: My work is very important to our country and to you. We're working very hard to make the world better for you.
