The last time I saw Benedict on the screen was the Avengers III. From starring in Hawking, Sherlock, and Doctor Strange, Benny has always been a double guarantee of film and television quality and box office. This time, he showed off another wave of acting skills with the high-scoring new drama "Patrick Melrose".
This show feels like a British version of Gatsby to me. The 5-episode mini-series, spanning 20 years in time, tells the first half of a British high-society boy's life.
The Patrick in the play is very different from the previous image of Cun Fu, he is just a poor big boy without a strong high IQ. But it is precisely because of this that the fragile and neurotic character allows Benny to have more acting skills.
Contrary to the plot, the pictures in the play are so brightly colored that if it weren't for the hysterical monologues that come every few minutes, it's almost impossible to feel that it's telling a story of childhood shadows. Whether in rainy London or sunny southern France, the director uses contrasting colors extensively.
In addition to the textbook-style templates of color matching, what attracts me is the choice of furniture. When telling the story of life, it is inevitable to leave home, and when it comes to home, furniture is naturally inseparable.
The picture below shows the living room of Patrick's home when he was a child. The overall tone is light green, and the furniture is retro and exquisite. But there is no sofa, and the chairs are scattered. It is not difficult to find that the family members are not close.
This is where the teenage nightmare begins. My father always sits in the living room and plays the piano alone. Most of the curtains are drawn, which is both deserted and eccentric.
Years later, when Patrick came back to visit his mother with his children, the furniture was randomly set up, and the living room was no longer what it used to be. There is a visible estrangement between him and his mother, and the changing world is revealed in the still life.
Characters with different personalities in the story will appear, and they will also be carefully matched with various styles of furniture. Father is domineering and withdrawn, and his exclusive chair looks like a small throne.
It was the turn of the fiery aunt, who was full of disdain. There is nothing more suitable than a bed board with African elements.
There are also three most classic British sofas in the play that cannot be missed. Like clothes, bags, and hairstyles, furniture can also reflect and bring out a person's character. The seemingly simple supplies are a reflection of the heart.
