Patrick Melrose's Home Guide to the Theatre

The last time I saw Benedict on the screen was the Avengers III. From starring in Hawking, Sherlock, and Doctor Strange, Benny has always been a double guarantee of film and television quality and box office. This time, he showed off another wave of acting skills with the high-scoring new drama "Patrick Melrose".

This show feels like a British version of Gatsby to me. The 5-episode mini-series, spanning 20 years in time, tells the first half of a British high-society boy's life.

The Patrick in the play is very different from the previous image of Cun Fu, he is just a poor big boy without a strong high IQ. But it is precisely because of this that the fragile and neurotic character allows Benny to have more acting skills.

Contrary to the plot, the pictures in the play are so brightly colored that if it weren't for the hysterical monologues that come every few minutes, it's almost impossible to feel that it's telling a story of childhood shadows. Whether in rainy London or sunny southern France, the director uses contrasting colors extensively.

In addition to the textbook-style templates of color matching, what attracts me is the choice of furniture. When telling the story of life, it is inevitable to leave home, and when it comes to home, furniture is naturally inseparable.

The picture below shows the living room of Patrick's home when he was a child. The overall tone is light green, and the furniture is retro and exquisite. But there is no sofa, and the chairs are scattered. It is not difficult to find that the family members are not close.

This is where the teenage nightmare begins. My father always sits in the living room and plays the piano alone. Most of the curtains are drawn, which is both deserted and eccentric.

Years later, when Patrick came back to visit his mother with his children, the furniture was randomly set up, and the living room was no longer what it used to be. There is a visible estrangement between him and his mother, and the changing world is revealed in the still life.

Characters with different personalities in the story will appear, and they will also be carefully matched with various styles of furniture. Father is domineering and withdrawn, and his exclusive chair looks like a small throne.

It was the turn of the fiery aunt, who was full of disdain. There is nothing more suitable than a bed board with African elements.

There are also three most classic British sofas in the play that cannot be missed. Like clothes, bags, and hairstyles, furniture can also reflect and bring out a person's character. The seemingly simple supplies are a reflection of the heart.

①Camelback Sofa

This Patrick reclining and watching TV sofa originated from the design of the 18th century British furniture designer Chippendale. The sofa pictured below by him for George III was auctioned for £2 million.

The most classic part of Camelback Sofa is just as its name. Add a touch of elegance with the exposed sofa legs.

The leather Camelback chosen in the play retains the curves and looks more fashionable. It is in the same color as the coffee table and the picture frame on the wall, and then matched with plain modern pictures. This classic sofa looks in a modern home. No conflict at all. Visually, the sofa looks like it is opened up to wrap people. For Patrick, who is extremely insecure, it is precisely this sense of wrapping that highlights his helplessness.

② English Three Seater Sofa

In the living room of Aunt Patrick's country house, I chose a warm orange canvas sofa in the same color as the overall style. It has both highlights and coordination. It looks very elegant and friendly.

This three-seater sofa looks simple, and some may even find it a little cluttered with multiple pillows, but this three-seater English country classic with soft cushions and lower armrests is perfect for a large family.

③ Chesterfield Sofa

In the event hall of Aunt Kuochuo's house, of course, this British classic sofa, known as the "mother of sofas", sits in the town. Although there is only one back view, it is worth making so much space to set off, which shows its charm.

Chesterfield belongs to the English country club style of the King's "Edwardian period" (1901-1910). The diamond-shaped leather texture sewn with buttons has become a masterpiece of British classical sofas.

The classic Chesterfield has an upright and flat back, a row of neat buttons on the surface of the sofa, the armrests on both sides are upright at the same height as the back, and the skeleton made of solid beech wood looks very atmospheric at first glance.

This gentleman's sofa has also appeared many times in the recently popular "Why is Secretary Kim like that". Dark Chester is suitable for upscale formal occasions. It is recommended to give it enough space and do some simple matching, which will make it look more atmospheric and advanced overall.

When buying god Rebecca renovated her new home, she changed the color of the entire wall for a big red sofa. This is also Chester. If it is a brightly colored sofa, you might as well use contrasting colors to highlight it like hers. In the whole space, you can rest assured that Chester will be the protagonist.

I also like some Chesters that have been slightly modified in the later stage. The height is slightly lowered and the material is changed, so that the sofa of such a tough guy can also become full of girlishness.
