The horror-thriller "Stranger Things" did well at the box office when it first launched, grossing $80 million worldwide at a cost of $10 million. This was a very good result in 2008. It is believed that under the impetus of this capital, it also directly triggered the production of "Stranger 2".
The idea behind The Stranger is that they have no beliefs, no reason, just pure killing strangers for fun. From the background, I can tell you that this is a movie without full depth. The purpose of the movie is to show the cat-and-mouse story of the protagonist and the murderers fighting wits and courage, but "The Stranger" prefers that the murderer accounts for 90% of the initiative. Therefore, people who pursue excitement can also obtain pleasure in a relatively depressing life from an "absolute advantage" torture.
But the "Stranger Things" series is not like the B-level horror films like "Deadly Bend" and "Black Friday" that use blood plasma as a selling point. Their murder plans are all one-shots, mainly using cold weapons. This has inherited such a feature in the second part, and cold weapons are particularly important in horror films. On the one hand, from the perspective of killing techniques, it is more silent and avoids making the audience pay some IQ taxes. On the other hand, using a gun will reduce the sense of terror. This is like the scene where the boss finally sets fire to the protagonist in "Collections", and all the terrifying atmosphere is rippling. And "The Stranger" - including the second part, does a better job, all three characters maintain a good sense of mystery, in fact, they wear masks. Considering that it is not a star factor, this is undoubtedly a good choice for increasing the mystery.
However, on the other hand, taking off the mask after being counter-killed by the protagonist, in the case that the characters have not explained too clearly, taking off the mask is really not very useful except to satisfy the voyeuristic desire of the audience and the protagonist.
In addition to these more common tricks, we see some other horror movie tricks in "Stranger Things 2":
For example, this one, use the dark place to do the insertion scene. This is similar to the usual ghost movie, the principle of leaving blank and then inserting the background blur. However, the use of light and shade in "Stranger Things 2" is more superb.
This scene is actually quite traditional. The protagonist(s) usually turn their backs to the perpetrator, but since the audience can feel the existence of the murderer from an omniscient perspective, this technique becomes the audience worrying for the protagonist(s) (including the final crash). scene). It is a relatively traditional expression technique, but in recent years, horror films have not used this technique much.
But the biggest problem with "Stranger Things 2" is that, in addition to some common bugs, the most important thing is that when the audience is not worried about the IQ of the protagonists - for example, "You Are Next", our movie viewing is pleasant. The strength of "Stranger Things 2", and even many villains in thriller and killing films, is based on the lack of action ability of the protagonist. We cannot understand why there is no one in the whole village? Why do the protagonists have to be separated? Why don't you dare to shoot with a gun? Why is the protagonist's vision so poor (like the screenshot above). Because this kind of story does not explain too much background, most of our audiences tend not to understand when the protagonists make actions that are different from ordinary people, which naturally affects the viewing experience.
In general, in the category of horror movies. Stranger Things 2 is not bad. But if the film production team can make a fuss about the plot, background and even the motivation of the characters' behavior, I believe it will raise the whole film to a higher level. The current situation, in fact, is only standing still on the basis of the first one.
