Never in my film-watching history have there been such magnanimous works. Fellini has, but he is serious. Some people say that Monroe is a vase, Sugar is a woman who worships money, and Wilder is a erotic sidekick. But what's the problem? Some people say that the topic of gender is shallow, but comedy has a philosophy of comedy that doesn't require in-depth debate, but instead focuses on those few manifesto moments. Comedy disappoints when obsessing over a topic gets in the way of humor itself. For example, is there any thought that can be more direct, and more ambiguous than the scene of Sugar kissing Josephine in a wig?
