Last night, I was discussing migration in the global sociology class. I went through 8 papers in the first half, and watched this documentary in the second half. The rhythm of watching a documentary every day is really unbearable. From AIDS to migrant workers, to climate change, so many truths have been pushed to you, and the heart of 'innocence and peaceful life' in the past has become complicated, heavy, and doubtful, and countless questions have begun to pop up: "Why? Will it be like this?!"
Back in the film, Leonardo DiCaprio is the main character and narrator. Although Leonardo tried his best to call on the American people to raise their environmental awareness in the film, it does not seem to have had much influence. No, as soon as spring came, Starbucks has already started to use cold air conditioners. There is still almost one car, and the air conditioner and heating are still fully open. Beef is eaten and snacks are bought. When a comfortable lifestyle has become a habit, who cares about Indonesia's virgin forests burning and distant glaciers melting? Climate change is an indisputable fact, but politicians and businessmen deny it for their own benefit. All kinds of fake news flood American television screens, confuse people and interfere with public judgment. The conversation between Leonardo and the Indian lady is impressive: An American consumes 10 times the energy of a Chinese, and 30 times that of an Indian. If the United States does not take the lead, who has the right to blame and demand others?
Regarding environmental justice: It is unfair for the countries with the least impact of global warming to suffer the most losses and become climate refugees. Like war refugees, who is to blame? Last year, the Paris Agreement, which was finally reached, was torn up by Trump. So, is global warming being curbed? Dry places will be drier, and flooded places will be more flooded. Humans are like frogs in warm water, short-sighted and hindsight, waiting for the coming of the Great Flood together. Maybe the end of the world is really near, sinners, don't hide your ears and steal the bell, repent!
