I think this ending is already good.
Everyone has different expectations, so no matter what the real ending is, there will always be people who are not satisfied, and the open ending is good now.
Those who believe that James is still alive, they may be able to imagine how many years later James and Alyssa are sitting on the swing quietly looking into the distance; those who think that James is dead, they may also be able to predict that Alyssa's heart will be ashes afterward.
No matter how it ends, the story is over and there should be no more superfluous. Now the ending is the best, James has found his lost feelings, and Alyssa has found his mother's hidden love for her. Either way, I think it's a happy ending to some extent.
I really, really like this show, but I also really really don't think it should be recommended to everyone.
For example, my family is not very complete, and my life is not very smooth, so I actually feel a little desperate after watching this TV series: after all, I am not Alyssa, I can't meet my James, no one has love like them as thrilling.
Thinking of this is actually a little lost.

I wish all James find their Alyssa, and I wish you a long time to harm the world.
Actually, I still recommend this show.
